Fps increase in WoW, possible pc upgrade.

DoubleWz

Hey, I currently have 1440p monitor, a gtx 1070 paired with a 4690k (running at 4.3ghz) and 16gb ram. The game runs fine most of the time but im tired of the massive fps drops durings raids, battlegrounds and such. Is there anyway to get a consistent frame rate? Would an i7 help?

Load up Rivatuner.

Check your CPU usage, RAM usage, GPU usage, pagefile size and usage, and disk usages.

Find what component needs more work to do and fix or upgrade that component.

I have gtx 1060 and playing in ultrawide 1080p, frames never dropped below 50. Check if you have v-sync disabled in other games aI had a problem it would randomly cap game at 30fps and drop even lower because card didn't think it was gaming load.

WoW is a CPU hog when it comes to raiding, and I personally wouldn't recommend upgrading unless you're looking at Coffee Lake. If you wanted to upgrade, you'll get more of a benefit from higher clock speeds than hyper threading.

As far as what you can currently do, first make sure your Windows power management is set to maximum performance. By default, Windows uses the balanced plan, which doesn't allow the CPU to run at full speed during sustained gaming. You could also try overclocking a bit more. It's been a while since I played WoW, but in Tera (which has similar issues), disabling most of the UI elements also helps, so perhaps give that a try.

If you use addons they could be the problem as well.
