I recently just got a gtx770 by gigabyte, I was doing  a stress test today with MSI Kombustor and i noticed the molex connector on the molex to 8 pin was insanely hot

estimate about 100c is this a bad sign or just normal?

CPU: i7 6700 @ 4.25Ghz on 1.26 volts

RAM: HyperX 8GB @ 2666Mhz (doesnt like to be oc'd)

MOBO: MSI Z270 Gaming M3

GPU: Galax GTX 970 @ 1500Mhz  (with modified black EXOC bios)

Power Supply: Cougar CX700

Molex connectors are not meant to carry that high current. I'd suggest to get a better power supply that has the connectors that you need.

Could be a bad connection between molex and adapter

You really shouldn't be using an adapter to connect a GPU to a molex. Molex are for fans and LEDs not power hungry GPUs.

This is bad..........the heating may be due to the fact that the gfx card is sucking a lot of current or due to arcing between the connectors due to a improper connection!

Try reconnecting the adapters or else buy a new power supply sooner or later! Molex is not meant to power these power hungry cards but only for peripherals imo.

I really dount its at 100C. How did you test it, by hand? If so you should have burnt hand by now. Its more likely something around 30-50C. 90-100C is what boiling water is.

There's no reason to be using a molex to 8-pin if you're running one graphics card...

If you're running two then you probably should upgrade to a beefier power supply anyway.

As far as I know the Gigabyte's GTX 770 comes with a double-molex to 6pin and a double-molex to 8-pin. Check that they are all well and securely connected.

On the other hand, I checked your profile for specs and the PSU you listed (Cooler power 700W) comes with a 6+2 PCIe connector, so why don't you connect that to 8pin on gfx card?

About the PSU, a 700W unit for $50 or something is a piece of crap that will destroy your PC. You should really invest in a good 80+ unit because a good 400-500W PSU will outperform a crappy 700W PSU any time 'n' day, especially under high loads.
