Should i wait for Volta gpu's

Currently i am having amd rx480,i wanna upgrade to a 1080 but i am not sure should i wait the Volta gpu's to come out early 2018 or get this right now 
cpu i7 8700k

Corsair h100i v2 

16 gb ram ddr4
asus z370-a prime 

evga 650 g2 gold psu 

ssd-500gb 

hdd 1 tb

2k is 1080p, though I assume you mean 1440p.  A 480/580 can handle 1440, no modern card other than a 1080 ti or titan (v/xp) can handle 4k.  If you go 4k wait.

The time to sell would have been a few months ago when the 480 was really hot on the used market while the 1080 was sticking near MSRP. I'd just wait for Volta if you have a gpu that capable unless you can get a really good selling price.

The 1080ti will probably be between the 2080 and 2070 and is the only card that can handle 4k. The 1080 will probably be between the 2060 and the 2070 and can handle 1440p, but not 4k. The 2080 will cost about as much as the 1080ti costs now, but will have a longer lifespan of support and maybe a bit of extra VRAM. It will most likely come out somewhere between may and september of 2018.

 

If I were buying a 4k monitor within the next month or two, go ahead and buy a 1080ti to run 4k. If I were waiting until like March I'd just run games at 1080p (it's a perfect 4:1 ratio anyways so there won't be any conversion weirdness) and wait for Volta in the summer.

 

However for you, just decide whether or not you'll feel buyers remorse from buying a Pascal card when Volta is 6-8 months away. I bought a 1080 when everyone thought Volta was due for Q1 2018 because I felt like waiting was silly with 6-8 months before new cards came out, but that decision is yours.

I am having almost the same rig as you, same CPU, Motherboard + Kraken X62 and NVMe SSD. I was also thinking about this issue lately, and I decided better to buy GTX 1080. Actually, I just ordered one. I mean I didn't want to pay 300+ $ for 1080 Ti, so just in case if Volta will be tremendously great it is possible to sell 1080 without any huge loss and buy new gen graphic card.  In my opinion - go for it, I think it will serve you well.

I am propably going for 1440p Dell S2716DG 27" TN Gaming LED Monitor this is what i am getting but i am going for the 1080 to be future proof a bit or the vega when it comes out

How are your cpu temps ? and what res do you play

Vega is already out. It sucks for gaming. Don't buy it. Especially since that monitor is G-Sync which means Vega would make that monitor a massive waste of money. A GTX 1080 is a great 1440p card. I have an ROG Swift PG278Q which is basically the same as that Dell monitor and I use a GTX 1080 and I have yet to come across a game that I can't run at ultra 60fps, although I know Ghost Recon Wildlands can't even with a 1080ti. However with high settings I'm usually around 100fps in AAA games, so I think it'll have quite a bit of life for the next 24-36 months like my 780ti did.

I meant the Volta  :( i red that the monitor is superb for the price
