Anyone ever mess with multiple PSUs on a single system?

 

Hey, brand new here. My first post.

 

So I'm building a machine for moderate gaming out of my old parts for my little bro for Christmas; he's 13. In addition, I bought a gtx 1050 and a phenom II x6 1045t for the system. I know the CPU is old, but I'm poor and it beats the athelon that was with the board. The best available PSU I have is a corsair CX430 (430 watts).

 

Soooo I'm coming up a little short when it's under full load. I haven't actually gotten the CPU in the mail yet, but I looked up the power draw for the two components.

 

I have a bunch of power supplies laying around. I've been looking into how to use two power supplies on one computer, and I came across add2psu, but all that does is power on a second PSU when the computer is powered on (I think. There is very little clear info about the part). The board has a 20 pin connector and a 4 pin connector. Would it work if I connected one power supply to the 20 pin and the other to the 4 pin? If so, which pin connector would work better with the higher wattage power supply? I'm just trying to figure out if there's a safe way I can do this without buying a new power supply. Anyone with any input would be greatly appreciated.

 

And for anyone that doesn't know, the gtx1050 doesn't have a power connector. It's powered through the board. Thanks so much.

CX430 can power that build easily, though itself isnt a good PSU because of the cheap parts used dont last long and will generate problems over time.

I'm not trying to argue a point; I believe what I'm being told here. I just wanted to share what lead me to believe the CX430 wouldn't provide enough power.

Both those numbers are total system power draw (so it includes all components) so you'll be fine. also 173w+177w == 350w so it would even leave some headroom

what gamers nexus lists down is based on the entire computer's power consumption, not just the graphics card. a CX430 will be way more then enough wattage for a gtx 1050, don't worry about it.

Oh hey, I know this might merit a new thread considering this has been resolved (not sure), but I figured it wouldn't hurt to add a part 2.

 

I found an Antec true 430 in a pretty old dvd burning tower I used to use from back in the day. I mean, it's been used quite a bit near full load. It appears to be rated much better than the corsair cx430. Is there any sense in switching them out and going with the Antec?

not at all, that true 430w is ancient and has far less amperage on the 12v rail than the cx430. stick with the cx430 and dump the true 430 in a recycling center or something.
