What CPU cooler should i buy?

EmanuelNorberg

I have a 2600k in my pc, cooled by a stock fan. Not overclocked and never will, i only have a H77 chipset. When rendering videos in Sony vegas i noticed it can get as hot as 80C. What cooler should i get? I've been looking at Noctuas, because Linus recommends them and i'm not interested in closed watercoolers. I'm looking for a good bang for the buck ratio here. I'd rather not get the 212 EVO.

i wouldnt really get a CPU cooler if you arent going to overclock. that really all those noctuas are for. if u really want to get something a CM hyper 212+ (evo) would be more than enough for this

I'd get the Noctua NH-D14, since it's about as good as a lot of the AIOs.

Honestly 212 EVO is the best but since you don't want it go for the Thermaltake Contact 30 or 39

I see you didn't read OP's post, H77 board no OC planned ever so a D14 would be pointless

@OP

Cooler Master 212 Evo is inexpensive and is probably the most recommended cooler on this forum by a large margin.

But he doesn't really want the EVO. He's looking at Noctuas. And he doesn't want a AIO.

Also, the NH-U14S is pretty good.

Alright, i'm starting to see a picture here. I guess it's best to get the 212. How about noise? Is it going to be louder than my stock fan? I presume not. Also, is it easy to install? I've seen installation guides but i'ts hard to tell, i've never installed anything other than push pin coolers before.

<10 min installation job!

The maual is detailed and also there are loads of hyper 212 installation videos you can reference them if need arises.

And for the noise its quieter than the stock cooler.

Well, you case and RAM won't have any issues even with D14. I vote for U14S :)

if you're worried about noise you can always replace the fans with noctuas or any other good after market fans

I've always been a fan of the 120mm Cooler master cooler. i run it. it's very quiet and very effective. idle  on Phenom II x6 1090T is 20C stock voltage and 27-30C @ 1.4625 volts. max temp i've seen was 55C and im using very cheap compound. and i have a older cooler. 4 heat pipes. now they have 6 or 8 only issue is if u have tall memory heat sink they do interfere. which means u could only use one fan instead of 2.

Dont mind the dusty nasty. lol 1 thing that drives me insane. i can never keep my fans clean.

The 212 Evo is pretty quiet especially if you run a low rpm since you're not oc'ing.

I have a Silverstone Air Penetrator AP121 as an exhaust fan. Would it be better to swap the stock fan on the 212 Evo for it? The AP121 is optimized for directional cooling, not really an exhaust fan to begin with.

Can't find those in stock at a trustworthy webstore here in Sweden. I'm aiming at 212 Evo instead.
