Early Access Hardware – The Problem With AMD Vega Frontier Edition

AMD's Vega Frontier Edition was an early look at the Radeon Vega GPU... But what price did the early adopters pay for their loyalty to AMD?

Buy a Vega Frontier Edition for some reason (it's $1,000 again as of 12/12/2017):
On Amazon: http://geni.us/0KIYS
On Newegg: http://geni.us/CqYqJ

Or buy a GTX 1080 Ti instead:

On Newegg: http://geni.us/nDnr2

Great video... just shows how badly RTG has fucked this up. For all the good AMD CPU's have done, RTG has come out with a stinker on so many levels. From Vega being a pile of crap.. to this shenanigans.. and now in their latest driver package giving a toggle switch to miners which supposedly improves mining 15% on the 570 4GB model. Just no RTG, my new build ended up having to go gsync monitor mated to a EVGA 1080 Ti FTW3... because of these intense screwups over this year I probably will not look at another RTG product again.

Issue on one of the slides, RX Vega has HBCC enabled in it's drivers, can allocate as much RAM to it as you want as far as I could tell. It's also useful for mining apparently.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

There's no reason for them to ignore miners when that appears to be the majority of the people buying their GPUs.

Then they shouldn't say they want to get cards into gamers hands when they in fact, don't want that.

Gamers don't make them as much money as miners, They just need to produce enough cards to saturate both markets.

If they don't split the stack with Polaris/Vega next generation they might be better off keeping up with demand, especially if they don't use HBM in the cards.

Again though, they shouldn't have been lamenting their cards being not available for gamers. Mid-summer they were all about the gamers... and now they aren't. So they don't want gamers to own the RX series and Vega which is supposed to be for gamers is a pile of crap that are way over priced with partner cards who knows where, who knows what costs and who knows if they even will be available. Maybe they should change their name from RTG to MTG (Miners Technology Group).

Any significance to the EKWB logos?

Probably about the EK Threadripper block.

Was kinda hard to miss that there was going to be something fishy about the card when they released it. I mean everything just seemed so weird. People who spent that much money on it anyways must have known what they've gotten themselves into or they truly had more money than brains.
