Is this safe?

This sounds a future news headlines like "Family found dead in home from carbon monoxide poisoning"

These heaters are meant for job sites and commercial applications.  Not in enclosed spaces.  Even though you'll be taking fresh air (oxygen) in you'll be exhausting fresh carbon monoxide into a relatively closed space.  You could do this as a temporary fix with a CO detector but this sounds very dangerous since it can render you unconscious. If you happen to fall asleep at your desk you might not wake up.

Options?

Get a portable heater that plugs into a standard wall socket.  While they can cause fires if used carelessly they emit no toxic gas.  The downside is less heat so perhaps more insulation would be needed.

Get a gas heater meant to be used inside.  These have vent flue that takes the carbon monoxide outside.  Even if you don't have natural gas hooked up to your house they can be run from a portable tank just like a job site heater.  You can even get a large tank outside (local law permitting) that will run it for months.

Move your desk.  This might be the cheapest option.
