CPU bottlenecking New GPU

My Rig's specs are as follows

 

Core I5 4460,

16 GB RAM,

4 TB HDD,

GTX 1060 6GB

Asus b85 Pro gamer motherboard

 

So the Christmas is coming and i think I will get a bonus. I want to upgrade to a GTX 1080 and my question is will my CPU bottleneck my GPU. My GTX 1060 6GB is struggling a bit in 1080p res even with newest drivers and one of my Friends suggested that it might be my CPU bottle necking my GPU. In my country it is hard to find a 4th gen Core i7 but I can get a Working Xeon  E3-1220 from a decommissioned server from my office. Will this new mix work fine or GTX 1080 will not be bottlenecked by my new CPU?

the 1220 v1 doesn't fit your mobo, and the 122x series xeons are all quad cores without hyperthreading.

Yes there will be significant CPU bottleneck unless the game is very light on the CPU (most server-based games are unless you are the host).

 

Swapping to a E3 1220 wont improve things much though, since that doesnt have hyper threading and clock speed bump is small.

In 1080p the 1060 should be plenty with that CPU.

Hell my GF is still playing with a 660ti paired with a 4560k at medium settings steady at 60FPS (assuming this is what you play at too)

You should be having zero issues with a 1060 at 1080p60... I really wouldn’t bother with a 1080 at 1080p

You shouldn't have any issues with the GTX 1060 at 1080p. Are you sure you don't have something running in the background?

I agree. I have a GTX 960 and I5 2500 Most games run just fine.  Not perfect but ok for now

I checked many times. Using Windows 7 to Windows 10 Fall creators update. Still It's struggling at certain games. Can't find out why.

You can try

 

 Go --Start -- type-- resource monitor-- and see how much CPU u are using

If you want too see live usage (load percentage) of the gpu and cpu and the frequencies they are working on, install CAM Software from NZXT, then you'll know which component bottlenecks.

I can confirm that the 4460 is a bottleneck @ 1080p with a 1060 in some games. CPU heavy games like Battlefield 1 show a massive gain in performance with an 8T CPU.
