Nicehash is down??????

some people are saying its maintenance others are saying it was hacked.  Not sure whats up.

They tweeted that their servers are undergoing maintenance 6 hours ago. Trying switching to other nodes like maybe Hong Kong and see it that works, I saw someone say that they got some mining done that way. Also, I could see the cryptocurrency market going down one day so watch out for that. If it crashes though, the GPU market will be saved and we can finally have some better prices on our GPUs.

Nicehashs' entire service is down. All of their BTC have been moved to a single address.

 

There's a few options this could be,

 

1 they have messed up their maintenance and are securing all BTC for a back up.

 

2 the owner has done a runner with millions worth of BTC.

 

3 they have been hacked and all their BTC has been stolen.

 

This is the bitcoin address that the nicehash users are claiming their BTC have gone too.

If they have been hacked any that amount of BTC has gone missing expect a massive drop in many of the big cryptos.

 

Personally I don't think they have been, but I'm acting as if they have until they confirm it. E.g. I've cashed out my entire portfolio of cryptos to fiat. 

 

Remember, there is nothing wrong with banking your profits of your ever unsure. If/when nicehash goes back online and pays out what they should, I'll reinvest into the market.

yup down since last night for me. I dont like the down time and luckily was up when it went down.  Switched over to the bbt multi-miner and using local wallets now. IF nicehash comes back up, i'll be cashing (if there is anything left) and i'll be out for good.

Yup, nicehash is down, nobody knows what's really happening (appart from the 4700ish BTC transfer).

 

I've switched to WinMiner for now and will see what's up with everything, at worst I've only lost what I had mined over the weekend, $16 (I have an external wallet, not a nicehash wallet, so my wallet isn't at 0 like some have reported).

Actually, it's official.  They were hacked.  Per statement on reddit.

Lucky. They held my payment until it was 0.01 of a bitcoin and the price kept rising so I lost almost $380

i'm currently out .08btc from nicehash... devastating, but at the same time a lesson to be learnt. trust no one, and trust no wallet unless its your offline wallet (trezor, ledger, etc). plain and simple for me anyways this will cost me more money by transferring smaller amounts constantly, but less risk means its a fee i'm willing to take.

 

for as long as i live i'll never recommend nicehash to anyone again, i highly recommend people start getting away from these types of miners, and start mining alt coins directly, you can use exchanges to invest into btc if you want. IMHO its the best way to ensure ones safety.

Funny how it was stolen when BTC was at an all time high. Now I'm mining eth with my 480s and getting more than I ever did with NH. Also NH's "main developer" appears to be matjaž škorjanc, creator of the mariposa botnet who was jailed for 5 years.

The problem here was wallets on a server. The payouts were 0.001btc for their wallet and 0.01btc for external wallets, pretty great idea if you were planning to steal everyones money then quit.

if you watched their 'live stream' yesterday on facebook, its clearly all bullshit. If they are working with international law, cyber crimes units, and local law enforcement, like they say they are it sure doesnt show. 2 younger guys, one 'ceo' didnt say a fkn word in 6 minutes, not a single peep in the building, no bodies moving around, no authorities around, just two blokes standing behind a counter infront of a nicehash symbol on a wall stating nothing but bs with a shit eating grin on their faces.

 

At the end of the day, i highly recommend looking after yourself and not using pools like nicehash, winminer etc. setup to mine direct to pools (bbt multiminer, claymores, etc) and mine to a local wallet at the lowest payouts possible. may cost more for transaction fees but its safer. I learnt my lesson with a very decent loss.

I remember people claiming these were "impregneble fotresses" of the internet. I now laugh as i warned them. Crypto curancy is over if they do not start taking hackers seriously.

@lieder1987 I said IF, keep in midn this isint the first big cryptocurrancy hack and it wont be the last. But if all they do is say sorry nothing we can do about it. They will find fewer people wanting to invest in large groups liek nicehash if the risk of losing their investment is so high with no way to hedge them.

Do some research, this is not the first big hack. However this is probably the most noted/media covered hack in cryptocurrency due to the amount of people involved now in both mining and trading.
