ASUS VG248QE produces strong static cling/magnetic field?

Hey all, I noticed that the backside my Asus VG248QE tends to produce a rather strong static electrical field after being powered on for several hours. If you simply brush your arms against the plastic back or sides of the monitor, you can really feel the pull on your hairs. This monitor is only a few days old, and the backside was caked with dust in a pattern similar to this effect:

I was wondering if this is normal behavior for this monitor, or for monitors in general? I was a bit concerned since static electricity is harmful for PC components, but is this nothing to worry about?

If the monitor works fine, I wouldn't worry too much about it. It also probably varies based on what kind of materials the monitor is made of.
