should i remove the pre applied thermal paste on a stock intel cooler if i bought separate thermal paste?

i recently purchased some parts for a new pc but im just gonna use the stock cooler. i didnt realise that the thermal paste on them came pre applied so i was wondering if i should remove it and use different thermal paste or just leave the pre applied paste on and still add the other paste on the cpu. (this is my first time building a computer but i feel kind of dumb for not knowing this please help.)

I'd just use the stock paste for now. Worst case, if you feel your temps are high you can always remount the cooler with your thermal paste you bought.

I wouldn't add extra thermal paste on top of the preapplied paste as you might have quite a mess on your hands with that much paste.

Personally I like to remove any pre-applied TIM and replace it with Noctua NT-H1. Personal preference really any you shouldn't see any issues with just using what comes with it if you don't know how to correctly apply thermal paste.

I usually test with stock TIM to make sure the system POST's and runs the OS up until an hour of P95. After that, I'll decide if I want to remove the stock TIM or leave it.

Personally, I would remove the pre-applied paste and use NT-H1 instead. Yes, leaving the original there will work and all, but it's not much more than a couple of minutes of work to replace it with much better paste and you'll have a cooler CPU.

If you have paste, then go for it. Doesn't do any harm either way.
