Can any one help me fix a 3D model?

beaker15

Hello, I have found a 3D model for a modified volume knob for a Motorola XTS5000 walkie. But once I had it printed the item I found 2 issues with it. Im terrible with modeling so I thought I'd ask here.

Ultimately the indicator line needs to be reversed and the pin in the bottom needs to be about 1.5x bigger. If anyone could help me with this issue I would greatly appreciate it!

Also if someone can help I have included the model as an attachment.

Not all software can read every file type. Most should be able to read STL though. Inventor can

Yeah, looks like a low res STL file.

Was the original file an STL as well, or was it something with maybe better resolution like IGES or STEP?

Well originally just Win 10 3D viewer. before I printed it it looked fine. I dont usually model so other than the viewer I dont have a program for it.

As far thats the best I am aware of, I pulled the file from Thingiverse at this link https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:405126 There were two files in there, Im speaking of the one with the rounded top.

Let me know if you have any issues.

Edit: The pin's X Y and Z axis has been resized, so it's a little longer.  If that's an issue, I can change it.

50% taller "down".  There is no "up" per se.

If there is a problem, let me know.  It would take less than 5 minuets to fix it.

You don't have a printer?

not as of yet. I've been using Shapeways mainly because they can get a level of definition that would cost me thousands of dollars.

Alright, I was going to offer a print job, but it seems that you have a better solution.  :P

I appreciate it but I have had problems having it printed in PLA and such. I can get a texture and color closer to the default radio knob by using the black and flexible plastic off shapeways.

Who ever said that my printer could only do PLA?

Just messing with you.  :P

When you start looking at printers, take a look at the Flashforge creator pro, it's excellent for the price.

It can even do flexible filament, as long as you lower the print speed.
