GTX 1080TI SLI???

Well I know most people don't SLI GPUs anymore but could I do it with some success? I plan on building a Gaming PC Soon and I maybe thought hey way not go SLI 1080ti for 4K gaming Beast. Just want to here people thoughts if SLI in todays world is any good?

If you have the money you might as well but don't expect amazing performance in every game

Not much can stop you at this point if you can pay for the two cards. Make sure your mobo supports SLI and PSU is beefy enough.

What??? No, cpu matters so little at 4K that OP would be throwing away performance.  If you want to trim the fat in a build get a single card, don’t get 2 weaker ones

Uh no, at 4k a 1080 SLI is only at best case scenario 10 fps above the GTX 1080 Ti with actually worse frametimes, and whenever SLI scaling fails to work the single 1080 Ti takes the lead, meaning he's better off with a single 1080 Ti over SLI 1080 regardless.

 

If I was OP I would first get a single 1080 Ti and try it out, it is sufficient for 4k gaming if you adjust the graphical settings by all means:

Would only get the second card if you really feel you need to max out the settings.

 

If this is for bragging rights I'd get a TITAN Xp and water cool it, fastest single card in the world :3

SLI 1080Ti owner here. As long as you play games that scale with SLI, then it's definitely worth the investment IMHO. Having the second 1080Ti lets you easily push above 4k, push games beyond ultra, and mod the hell out of them. For example, I'm currently playing Fallout 4 at 60 FPS with mods and shadows that wouldn't be possible on a single 1080Ti.

This is false, and the fact you keep spreading bad information despite having been proven wrong many times in the past tells me you have no idea what you're talking about and are not qualified to answer SLI questions objectively.

If you're just blowing money, skip the SLI (its never that good of a solution) and get the new Titan Xp.  Better performance in ALL games for less money than 2 Ti's.

2 is better than one so go for it. Worst that could happen is you only have  single 1080ti on crappy games.
