4770k still relevant in 2017 ?

Coffee lake 3 times the performance ?

No, not even close.  an 8700k won't even be double the performance, never mind triple

A quick look at PCPartpicker hints to more like $700–%720 for a Ryzen 5 1600 build …

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

Motherboard: ASRock - AB350M Pro4 Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard  ($134.00 @ 1stWave Technologies)
Memory: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2666 Memory  ($255.75 @ Mighty Ape)

Since you already have a board I assume you already have DDR3 memory. You can sell that. Upgrading from 3770 to 4770k isn't such a big leap so I don't really see the point.

I would get around $300 for my board, cpu and ram . Then spend $400 on . the 4770k system so its a $100 upgrade overall.

Im tempted on a R5 1600 system too.  ( with a  better mobo that you picked but yes) so around $800 which means a $500 upgrade

Its from a non overclocking 3770 to a 4770k... that can overclock...

I agree with what they said. in keeping the cost down as long as you have a z77 board you should be able to grab a 3770k for a decent price, reuse everything else in your system and overclock that. The Haswell will be faster, but if price is a concern then a 3770k is something to think about!

Buy a 3770k and sell the 3770 non-k to make much of the money back, delid the 3770k, then install and overclock it. I got mine to 4.7ghz with an AIO once delidded (only 4.3 before) at 1.360vcore. Haswell isn't much of an improvement clock for clock. An OC'd sandy bridge is still relevant even.

That would cost me the same as a 4770k upgrade,

Yes, i7 4770k is still kicking strong.

I have no problem pushing 144+ FPS on my 165Hz monitor with 4.4GHz-4.6GHz and 1080ti.

If you found a good deal on the 4770k upgrade, then sure go that route. Delid and OC to your hearts content. But thats crazy that it seems you can get a 4770k and mobo for the same price as a 3770k, even after selling the regular 3770 to make some money back...

never said i have a z77 mobo,
But disregarding that. My Cpu , ram , Mobo combo sells around $300 so the 4770k is a 100$ upgrade overall.
While my 3770 sells for about $150 and a 3770k is around $250 .. so again a $100 upgarde

yeah nz pricing is weird.
An i7 2600k build is like $50 cheaper than a i7 4770k build .. As soon as it has k in it , it screws up pricing.

The main reason why these i7s are cheaper ( the haswell ones) is that their boards are not that good.. Like thats it there was not many upgrade options like there was from sandy to ivy bridge so not than mane people baught into them.

The other option would be a 2600k for around $40 upgrade cost? thoughts?

I wouldn't bother but, if you have a Z-chipset board, go for it.

Go for it then. The $40 is better cost than the $300 or more you were quoting above.

would be $40 for 3770  to  2600k
and
$100 for 3770 to 4770k upgrade

$300 was more for the Ryzen and stuff

Spend the $40. It'll also be less time used. I believe that SB is a better overclocker than the 4770K.

Yeah maybe ...
I think the 4770k is also tempting me as the MOBO is SLI enabled and eventually i might want to stick another 980ti in it if i find a cheap one

You can use SLI as long as the board has two 8x slots as far as I'm aware since Nvidia chipsets haven't been a thing since so long ago.

Hello,

Currently running a 3770 non-k and looking to upgrade. I found a really good deal on a 4770k bundle ( about half the price of an equivalent R5 1600 setup)  I also already have a custom watercooling loop so overclocking it will be good!

Any ideas?
Is its worth it?

Thank you in advance :)

Don't bother going from a 3770 to a 4770k. Save up enough to make an actual big upgrade like to an 8400 or better.

Well, RAM is an expensive barrier. If it could be carried over, I would agree.

My point is that 10% performance lift is barely worth the time to switch out the parts let alone the money.

I have a 4790k but I go back and forth between that and my 3770k. 3770 isn't keeping up in the game I currently play. It wouldn't handle my 2 1080s on 1080p so ill stick to my 4790. I wouldn't waste money on new stuff as its too costly, would have too sell what you have and get a new board, mobo and ram. Too much work for me for zero gains.
