Signature questions

Go to solution Solved by GoodBytes,

No images, whatsoever allowed. Sorry. We try to keep the forum clean. Already, we have people that abuses the avatar image by putting flashy animations, or questionable content that we need to remove.

So I am on the point of adding a signature.

But I see that Images are not allowed (see ... image)

Would something like this mixed with some text be okay?

This is an image, but contains a link to my Steam profile.

Just asking since I'd like to stay out of trouble :)

I guess that is clear.

Thanks for the help :)

One last 'bonus question"

Why are images not allowed?
I can think of a couple reasons, one being it messing up the layout or making reading harder.
But is there an "official reason".

Sidenote:

I can live with the reason:

"Just because"

In addition to what I mentioned,  when the forum was created, at the time, the "no image on signature" policy came from the community themselves. They wanted a forum that is clean, where signatures are not longer than their posts (ideally), and found that, based on their experience on other forums, that reading through them are annoying and degrades the quality of the forum. The mods and admin at the time concurred, and so the policy was set.

After giving it a bit of thought, I actually agree with this.

I wonder why this is one of the only if not the only forum that does this °-°

At least, that I know off.
Thanks for the clarification by the way :)

They are other forums, but I agree. I don't know why either. My guess, is that they want a completely open forum (or the most as possible), and basically let the community decides what they want, an go with complaints instead. They probably go with "our "selling' point to have people in, is that we are full featured forum", and what we get is what we get in term of community. The focus of this forum is maximize helpful response to other members. We don't want to be a boring encyclopedia of problems/solutions, we want discussions, but we seek intelligent ones, and we want them to be showcased instead of buried by images or poor quality replies. I am not going to say that it is perfect our community, but that is the goal we aim.

If you'd used forums in early 2000s, you'd understand why we don't like images. Also, they do slow loading times and make sites bigger to load on mobile connections. Even if they aren't displayed on mobile.

You can add images to About Me section in profile. Imo having huge RGB texts in sigs is too much also, but luckily current forum software version keeps those at minimal distraction.
