Overkill build - Max 4k glory

Hey all!

 

One of my good friends is looking to finally upgrade his computer. He moved last year, and has been using a loner build. He upgrades his computer every 5 years or so, and he's looking to store a fair bit of media, he has an insane library of games that he'd like installed, and he wants to be able to game flawlessly at 4k max settings.

 

This is what we've come up with so far.

He wants extreme, he wants overkill. Of course Black Friday will be when the shopping occurs, but this is generally what it will be.

 

Storage:

SSD 1 - Windows

SSD 2 - Most played games

HDD 1 - Photo storage

HDD 2 - Misc drive

HDD 3 - Additional game storage

HDD 4 - Media storage

 

This is more or less to make sure that none of the components have some flaw that I haven't seen a report/review on.

What's wrong with the Aero? Is it worse than a Founders card?

So the Founders card is better? It needs to be closer to a reference design with rear exhaust.

Founders changed a few things that made it more silent while pushing more air. None of the AIB's (EVGA hasn't either) have made an effort with their blowers.

Why not get a single SSD, and partition it, or two matching SSDs, run raid 0 and partition it?

Ahhh good to know! I mostly had the MSI on the list because of the higher clock speed.

He's had issues before where he's had to wipe his OS drive, and to avoid that problem again, he'd rather have it on its own drive. I originally had 1 2TB SSD, but he's set on having a separate one for the OS. RAID0 just adds additional, unneeded complexity.

Fair enough. Although I have never had issues with wiping the windows partitions. Although RAID is a different bag. I only got it running reliably today.
