why pick wd blue over seagate barracuda?

i was scrolling through amazon to make sure i spend my money wisely on my computer parts("maybe i should swap out parts if something else is a better value") and a i see a 2tb barracuda for only $10 more than the 1tb wd blue i had originally picked so naturally im like whats the catch

Turns out there is no catch and its just a way better deal but then i checked a comparing website and the wd blue is more popular and im like why?

I've had better reliability luck with WD, but others have had the opposite experience.

i've had both, both and experienced the same,. i've had 1 WD fail and 1 seagate fail, and i've had ones that im still using 4 years later of each brand.

Barracudas seem to have a higher failure rate than WD Blues. Where I am they cost the same, but regardless of price you should get the Blue because losing data on a dead HDD sucks.

I have had better luck with WD in the past but anything from Seagate or WD I have got in the past 2 years has worked problem free

I've used seagate my whole life, none failed on me.

Taking anecdotal advice from forums on WD or Seagate is pointless, for every failure story from brand A there is a failure story from brand B.  get the cheapest at the time of purchase. 

 

EDIT: and the first person to bring up blackblaze's abortion of an article on drive reliability gets multiple links and severe finger wagging followed by a capitalized tut tut from me.

One thing you'll want to keep in mind when it comes to the BarraCuda is that the 2TB comes in 2 different models, one is a 2.5-inch "laptop" drive which spins at 5,400 Revolutions Per Minute, or RPM (model ST2000LM015) and the other is a 3.5-inch "desktop" drive which spins at 7,200 RPM (model ST2000DM006). 

Regardless of which brand/drive is right for your needs in the end, thank you for considering Seagate!

Every pre built computer i bought came with a seagate barracuda. Failed on me every single time. I went to my friends house, saw a HDD on the desk, friend said it was broken, i asked if its a barracuda, he said YES!!! 

 

Looking at statistics, barracudas are among the most failed drives. They even discontinued the line for a while. They are NOT good. 

 

I bought a 5400RM seagate drives. I was still a noob back then. It was apparently a failed barracuda that couldnt pass the 7200RPM test so they revalidate failed barracudas at 5400RPM to increase yields. That drive failed within 1 year.

 

Every WD blue and black i bought runs perfectly fine. Internet statistics show those drives fail way less. 

 

On the flip side. I have been buying seagate constellation and enterprise capacities for 4 years now. Extremely reliable drives. Statistics shows those are the most reliable drives.

 

Now sure how the new line of barracudas stack up but i wouldnt touch them. Ill buy hitachi or seagate ironwolf instead if i wss on budget.
