Resolution vs Hz (Monitor)

Well i had an unplanned purchase of 980ti coz i found it on sale in a local store and its the last piece, got it for 250 usd brand new.
Now Since i already have that 980ti But I'm still stuck on a 720p. What monitor do you suggest i should upgrade it to?
1440p 60hz' or 1080p 144hz'?

Do you play a lot of fast paced games competitively? Go with the higher refresh rate.

Do you like nicer looking games? Go with the higher resolution.

 

If you do a lot of spreadsheets the higher resolution is nice too.

1080@144Hz. Theres a Nixeus panel that's really good in the Hot Deals sub-forum and there could be better monitors as well.

720p60 -> 1440p60 = 1 upgrade (resolution)

720p60 -> 1080p144 = 2 upgrades (resolution + hz)

 

2 > 1.

The choice is clear.

 

Edit: I have the nixeus monitor that was just mentioned, and it's very good

that only matters if you aren't pushing 144fps or higher, and you DO notice screen tearing

 

try playing a game with uncapped fps and see if you can see screen tearing.

FPS goes up to 300 - 350 with my games but didnt noticed any.. or my eyes are just too slow to notice or im used to it coz i have a low end monitor and GPU eversince. and i thought tearing occurs when the GPU cant cope with the refresh rate of the monitor.

This depends on a per-game basis. Some games don't exhibit tearing when going above or below the refresh rate.

While you're missing out on the FreeSync, everything else is appreciated. Screen tearing can happen above or below the refresh rate.
