I have a OnePlus 3T, It's a nice phone. Don't think I want to go with OnePlus again though. I want a fast phone, But I don't care for the big dogs in the game. Like apple, samsung ect... And I'd like to support a smaller company to help healthy competition. But I still want a phone that performs well.

OnePlus really lost a lot of users and respect when it was revealed that they are collecting data from all their phones. In most use cases, Without the users knowledge. I know you can disable this, in the settings, and if you really want to be careful you can disable it with a packet manager. (For anybody who didn't know;  pm uninstall -k --user 0 pkg) But on the other end of the spectrum, What big company isn't using their customers as a data farm? Everybody is doing it. Google at least is honest about data harvest. We all know what windows 10 is doing with Cortana, It's getting ugly out there for people who really want privacy, and its giving the tin foil wearers amongst us to double down on foil. Back to the phone.

Oxygen OS is similar to stock android, But isn't as good for my use case scenario. Not impressed, I wish it came with stock android.

I enjoy the phones high specs, But their price to performance is dropping with each release. In the article it says,

Quote

"Obviously, the standout change in design here is the slimmer bezels, as the company is widely expected to adopt a larger, 18:9 6-inch display."

I know part of the idea with smaller bezels is to increase screen realestate, But I think have normal sized hands and I think 5.5 inches is plenty, and on the bigger end. Granted I am no phone engineer, so I don't know what all they have to cram onto the PCB, to have phone with flagship bells and whistles on it. That may increase phone size. But, Id like to see bigger batteries on phones, and for them to focus less on squeezable frames, infinity edges, swap-able back plates and other phone gimmicks. I'd rather have a 1080 or 1440 screen with an LED screen that's on the thicker side, that will last me several days at a time, than a 4K Organic LED screen, that will last me half a day. Samsung tried both, by pushing their battery tech farther than it could go, and now they are an exploding phone meme.

The article below is just talking about the bezel of the phone, and not specs. The 5T looks a lot like the pixel in my opinion. Pretty uniform to most phones out right now. Not bad, but not good.

Give the article a read and share your thoughts.

Oneplus 5T? You mean the Oppo R11s?

Very unimpressed with their complete lack of design here. OnePlus is a company I used to be very interested in but they've made tons of mistakes and now, I have little to no interest in them or their products.

Yeah same here. That was a total shock. Yet, as always, they play the small company making mistakes and "sorry, we will change and not do it again!" Right. Makes me wonder what else they've been doing.

Plus, their products are pretty cookie cutter. The first one was unique and generally interesting. Great price and performance. After that, they've more or less just followed the status quo. It clearly works from a revenue perspective, but I wonder how long they'll last as they raise prices and copy design.

the OP5 is already breaking what they set out to do, make a flagship killer for a budget pricetag. its just plain too expensive for a lot of people

OR
you could simply accept the fact that your every word is being recorded, stored and analysed by computers around the world 24/7.

and just don't think about it.

so what if they show you more relative ads, I think thats great. (I woudn't want to see ads about say idk, facial cream or something when its not relevant to me)
the only "danger" is when you're in a company and have confidential info in hands, though obviously you'd have to just simply not share.

and regardless. they don't alwais associate your personal info with it. to them you're a number in a database. not [insert your name here] just be carefull and enjoy the device.

for example, LG never got "out" and say they do. but the new g6 sold by amazon with ads sure is spying on your phone. how else would the ads be relevent ?

now, we "know" that they do. but does it mean I'll throw my phone out ? ofc not !

its the small price you pay for all the "free" stuff out there.
