Ddr4 2666 vs ddr 3200

I have an i7 6700K on a z170 board. Currently running 4.6Ghz @1.325 volts. With a 16 (2x8) Gb ddr4 2666 1.2v ram kits. Timings arent very tight these are LPXs.

Im looking to upgrade to 3200mhz kit is it worth it? Or should i OC instead? Thanks

You won't see that much of a performance gain, I'd just OC instead.

For FPS gains you're probably looking at maybe 3 or 4 fps by getting a faster memory kit.

Since you have the 2666MHz kit already, I would suggest tightening the timings using @MageTank's guide.

lol when I saw the title I thought "some maniac must be trying to overclock DDR memory to 3200MHz with LN2 probably, go have a look"

Intel processors don't have a significant boost in performance with faster RAM in games.

For Ryzen CPU's, there's a difference but nothing to lose sleep over,  For Intel CPU's, it doesn't matter

5-10fps when the game is CPU bound.  I'd say it's significant.  However, that only really matters if you have a high refresh rate monitor.
