4K 144Hz - How many graphics cards do i need?

rektspeedster
Go to solution Solved by xsimplyjosh,

2 1080 ti and a 8700k should be just fine. No need for titan.

Hey I'm planning to get 2 ASUS ROG SWIFT PG27UQ Monitors.

They run at 144HZ instead of 60HZ on 4k.

Im getting 2 Aorus Xtreme 1080 TI's SLI to run support the fps.

I will be gaming on 4k at 144HZ.

Will I be able to get max fps?

Or will i need more gpu support?

Also is my core fine, it has hyper threading and is better than i7 7700k, it clocks higher.

Or should i go for a very high core and thread cpu such as i7 7980xe/ i7 7960x / i7 7940x / i7 7920x / i7 7900x

Please reply all in 1 answer

thanks :)

Go for a higher core count, around 8 will do. As for multiple GPUS go for two or three. Might be hard to find games that support three way

Two will be fine.  You don't need all settings maxed to play on 4k due to pixel density.

as far as I know goign past 1080p puts lest and less stresso n the CPU as you go higher, also the i7-7700K (well now prob the 8700K) is the top for gaming hands down. it crushes the X99/X299 stuff in straight up gaming combo that with 4K using way less CPU you are set on the CPU most i would say is give it the highest OC you can, it will need it.

Remember the X99/299 stuff is Xeon based, so from the beginning they are slower as they made to spread the load over as many cores as possible where for gaming they only now just (and very very Few) are going past quad cores, hence why the i5 has aged so well.

Redstone:
i7-4770 / Z97 / GTX 980 / Corsair 16GB  / H90 / 400C / Antec EDGE / Neutron GTX240 / Intel 240Gb / WD 2TB / BenQ XL24

Obsidian:

MSI GE60 2PE i7-4700HQ / 860M / 12GB / WE 1TB / m.Sata 256gb/Elagto USB HD Capture Card

Razer Deathadder Chroma / Razer Blackwidow TE Chroma / Kingston Cloud2's / Sennheiser 429 / Logitech Z333

Only thing that you can hold off on because of pixel density is AA. Everything else you still want.

You'll be GPU-bound at 4K. Get the i7-8700K as your CPU, no need to invest into the HEDT platform.

No, you have to get two Titan XPp and 8700k to get any chance at 4k 144hz in most AAA titles.

What CPU do you currently have? Don't get more than 2 1080ti's because they won't work together because nvidia doesn't support it. you will likely even get away with 1 1080ti as most games do not support sli, so the 2nd gpu is inert. a single 1080ti is pretty much capable of 4k 144hz. as long as your cpu is decent, 1 would be good if your on tight budget. but 2 is good for games that are sli optimised (there arent many that scale well though)

no he doesn't. the higher clocking 1080ti will do him well without destroying his bank account as much.

2 1080ti's is what you want. if the budget is slim and you would rather not get 2. 1 will still get over 100fps in all games

the cpu is not the limiting factor here. 8 cores will not benefit you and will be a waste of money. the 8700k is the best option. and with overclocking and high frequency ram, no issue at all. 8700k is the best gaming cpu hands down.

2 1080 ti will be plenty of power, but don't expect to play at max settings or ultra preset, as both of these have a bad performance to visual enhancement tradeoff

The mesh design is worse for gaming than the ring bus design which is why a 7700K can beat the 7920X in most games at the same clocks.
