What the hell is my motherboard doing

Ok so I have 4 ram dimms in 4x4. But here is the problem, my computer wont boot with more 1 dimms. It does matter which dimm I have plugged in or in which slot. It cant handle more than 1 dimm at all now. Before reassembly it was FINE.

My RMAed mobo come back from gigabyte and it turned out to be DOA. So i had to install the old motherboard again.

Have you cleared the CMOS yet? Does your Gigabyte board have something similar to MemOK! ?

Nope, still confused. If you RMA'd it and it was DOA, how'd you install your old mobo, wasn't that the one you RMA'd in the 1st place?

no. I RMAed my z170 hd3p which was DOA and am using my b150-d3h

BOTH. I first used it on my z170. which died then i used it on my b1150. Then went back to my z170 which then I bricked the bios and then went back to my b150. then back to my z170 which was DOA  and now i am back to the b150

Jesus, sounds like you might have borked something in all the switching.

So, only one RAM stick at a time works, but it doesn't matter WHICH ram stick you use, correct?

The Z170 board you mention uses DDR4, but that B150 board uses DDR3/DDR3L. You say you used the same RAM in both, which shouldn't be possible.

I'm with RKR - they use different type of ram...DDR3 and DDR4, which shouldn't be interchangeable.

The only thing I can say is you have two suspect things here:

(1) the motherboard

and

(2) the RAM.

 

I'd say, hit CraighsList and pic up a cheap used board that supports your DDR RAM, fire it up with all 4 sticks and see what happens.

If it works, then it's your old board, if it doesn't, then it's the RAM.

 

Post, if you can, clear pics of all 4 sticks of RAM here, and one good shot (again, if you can) of the B150 mobo

well the ram works and the dimm slots work too. Just not altogether and both of my mobos have ddr4

Either your mobo isn't a B150, or the ram isn't DDR4, because the specs *directly* from the mobo makers state, quite clearly one is DDR4 and one is DDR3 and they do not interchange...
