Ryzen 7 now or wait for next gen (Pinnacle Ridge)?

Hello everyone, I'm kinda new to PC gaming stuff and just getting into it (been doing research for a couple of months now), and I was mostly interested in AMD:s Ryzen processors for their potential future-proof-ness and their abilities in multi-tasking.

I found a good bundle on a Swedish website with an AMD Radeon RX Vega 64, an MSI X3370 XPower Gaming Titanium motherboard, and a Ryzen 7 processor (the bundle says 1700X but on the order details on my account it says 1800X so I'm actually not sure which one of those two I'm getting, but having fingers crossed for the 1800X) all together for a very reasonable price because they had a discount at the time.

I won't receive the parts until November (except RAM, which I already bought elsewhere) or so so I could always change my mind before then.

Apparently the next generation of Ryzen processors, codenamed Pinnacle Ridge, are already coming out in February, if I'm not mistaken? So I was starting to wonder if maybe it's too late to be worth it to get a 1700X/1800X processor?

I'm not sure what to expect from the next gen, since not a lot of details have emerged and I'm pretty new to this tech stuff.

I was kinda hoping to get a PC before the end of this year, but at the same time I don't wanna feel like I wasted my money on an inferior product just 2-3 months before a better one launchers.

What do you guys think?

(and if you have any questions I'll try to answer them)

Pinnacle Ridge is not Zen 2. In other words it's still the same architecture. I would say get Ryzen 7 first and get Zen 2 (code name, Matisse) when that's released.

AMD has promised backwards compatibility on their motherboards, so buying the bundle wont prevent you from being able to upgrade

And dont worry about the "wait for xxx" game, otherwise you'll be waiting for the rest of your life. If you've found a good deal and you want it, go for it. Zen+ is mostly just a ryzen optimization, (similar to skylake -> kabylake) While the later Zen2 should be the process shrink

Pinnacle Ridge is allegedly going to just be refined Ryzen silicon, possibly allowing for higher clocks.

However apart from the higher clocks, I don't see a significant jump in performance from Pinnacle Ridge as it is still the same silicon at the end of the day.

Don't wait. Buy now and enjoy until Zen 2 comes out around 2018 or 2019. That's where the real jump will be.

New Build (The Compromise): CPU - i7 9700K @ 5.1Ghz Mobo - ASRock Z390 Taichi | RAM - 16GB G.SKILL TridentZ RGB 3200CL14 @ 3466 14-14-14-30 1T | GPU - ASUS Strix GTX 1080 TI | Cooler - Corsair h100i Pro | SSDs - 500 GB 960 EVO + 500 GB 850 EVO + 1TB MX300 | Case - Coolermaster H500 | PSUEVGA 850 P2 | Monitor - LG 32GK850G-B 144hz 1440p | OSWindows 10 Pro.

CPU/GPU history: Athlon 6000+/HD4850 > i7 2600k/GTX 580, R9 390, R9 Fury > i7 7700K/R9 Fury, 1080TI > Ryzen 1700/1080TI > i7 9700K/1080TI.

Other tech: Surface Pro 4 (i5/128GB), Lenovo Ideapad Y510P w/ Kali, OnePlus 6T (8G/128G), PS4 Slim.

There is backwards compatability on AMDs motherboards so the upgrade is there. Get the ryzen 7 and then get the upgrade package when it is released, thats where the performance increase will occur.

Pinnacle Ridge is supposed to be a 12nm process shrink. Matisse will be the microarchitecture update, though it's also scheduled for a 7nm process shrink. That shrink just seems a bit unrealistic considering how much trouble Intel is having with 10nm.

Alright, I think I'll hold onto the bundle I found. Thanks for letting me know!
