Which motherboard for an upgrade.

You need to get a z370 mobo, Z270/Z170 will not work.

I'm planning on buying an 8700k tomorrow. And I have a mobo picked out that I like aesthetically. But I really don't know what im looking for feature wise in a mobo. I am wanting to stick to asus because I have a strix graphics card and an rog case. So it fits the theme. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N6E5DGE/?tag=pcpapi-20&th=1

Asus Strix Z370 motherboards. Not Z270 because Coffee Lake needs new chipset.

definitely not. coffee lake cpus will require 300 series chipsets. Think of the new socket as lga 1151 v2. It will have the same number of contact pins but they have a different arrangement, its similar to x79 and x99. Both sockets had 2011 pins but they were configured differently so they were not compatible.

Nah, you need a Z370.

The better models from Asus with powerstages (or dual N-fets) are good.

I wouldnt get anything but Asus.

Personal preference.

Seriously though, I would go Asus as well. Myself, I would pick up the Maximus Hero X, but I am partial to the Hero boards, my last 5 personal builds have had Hero boards in them. If for some reason, I had to go with something other than Asus, I would probably go with one of the higher end MSI boards.

Actually, only the XPower boards are competitive (except X370 one, that is garbage af).

The Craplike Z370 most likely uses the Niko mosfets (PK616BA, PK632BA) that are potatoes compared to the ones which Asus uses even on the low end (Cheap Z270, B350)

Yeah, the one I had in mind was the xpower titanium. I always go Asus tho, Always lol. The only time I deviate is if I am doing a build where a customer requested a certain board or a certain aesthetic element that limits my options.

Yeah.

If i have to compare MSI BIOS vs Asus BIOS, asus is way better. Way simplier and way more advanced than MSI

Yeah, I could probably overclock an intel cpu on an Asus board with my eyes closed. At least during the bios part, probably not once I hit the gui lol.

I prefer Corsair, but they make really well made power supplies at a good value.
