Need a little bit of help with my new system

Alright, I'll keep that in mind, guess I'll go with 2 Sata SSDs because my budget is pretty much at the maximum.

Btw, I did read that this year Intels CoffeeLake will be available and next year February AMD wants to bring out new CPUs as well. Is it better to wait?

Coffee Lake will be expensive compared to Ryzen. Sure it's better, but I'd save the money on something else. As for AMD's new CPU, it's not the last AM4 CPU to be released and it's not Zen 2, so no need to wait for it either.

Hey guys,

I'm building a new system at the moment and I might need a little bit of help. I have a bit of knowledge but I'm kinda new to this, because this is my first very own build and everything I know I had to learn by myself.

My Main Game is Playersunknown's Battlegrounds and when I have my new system I may start streaming as well.

I want to play on a 21:9 (2560x1080) with 144Hz and that with at least 120fps+. I know PUBG is still not optimized but soon it will be.

So here is my build:

(I used Amazon Links just so it's easier for you since I'm from Austria and we have different shops here)

Case: NZXT S340W

PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 750W

Board: MSI X370 Gaming Plus

CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 1700X

Cooler: CoolerMaster Hyper 212 LED Turbo

RAM: G.Skill 2x8GB 3200Mhz DDR4

Graphics card: EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti

SSD 1: Samsung 960 EVO M.2 SSD 256GB

SSD 2: SanDisk Ultra SATA SSD 500GB

That's about it.

Now I have a few questions:

Will this build be enough for my needs or is it actually too much?

Is the Ryzen 1700X a good choice or will a 1600/ 1600X do the job as well?

Will a GTX 1080 have enough power to play PUBG on Ultra Wide 144Hz with 120fps+?

For sure I would love to get some general feedback on this system, if I could do something better or if I made mistakes.

And just out of curiosity, is it possible to get a cheaper build that will be enough for my needs?

I mean money is not the problem actually, this is pretty much my budget, so I'm fine with the price, but if I get enough performance for less money, why not?

I thank you very very much for reading my post, putting the effort into checking out all the components and helping me.

PS: I hope the links work for everyone because I did this on my phone due to the fact that I'm at work and online via phone.

PS2: English is not my mother tongue so I hope that it's good enough for you to understand =)

See you later!

Greetings, Mindstalk3R

So a 1080 won't be able to game at 2k @ 120 FPS at highest settings. I know because I have a 1080, a 1700x, and 165hz IPS gysnc panel and they are all overclocked, and I still get average (With max settings) of high 90's to 100, so a 1080ti should get you there, however even then you may need to play with settings.

I would rather agree on what we share, than fight on what we don't. - Myself

None of the links work

1600 will be enough. Games dont generally use more than 6 cores atm. However, if you plan on streaming, get the 1700. Those with an X at the back means the same as an X should --- dont buy them. They are more expensive, doesnt come with a cooler (other than the 1500x and 1300x, but you arent considering those), and no faster. Pair a non-X model and use a good cooler will yield the same results.

GTX 1080 will let you play at 1440 ultra wide with ultra settings at about 50fps

so a GTX 1080Ti is mandatory for this game to run at 1440p ultrawide at 120+fps. Maybe up to high settings only.

Not the MSI Gaming Plus motherboard. In fact many MSI AM4 mobo have terrible VRM design, so just avoid them completely. It seems that mobo from other large names are fine, like Gigabyte and Asus.

No need for X370 chipset unless you plan on going SLI. B350 is enough.

Make sure your PSU is not Supernova G1 or NEX. They are a lot worse than G2 or G3. If you can, get a 80+ Gold Seasonic unit because G2 and G3s have a louder-than-it-should cooling fan.

NVMe drives work just like a SATA SSD as a boot drive. I suggest getting a small SATA SSD for the OS and a large (500GB or more) NVMe drive for apps and games.

Thanks for your help!
I did read that the 1700X isnt much better than the 1700X, guess I'll stick with the 1700, because the changes are high that I start streaming for fun, but I just thought since I need a aftermarket cooler anyway I'll just get the 1700X, because I won't be using the Stock cooler anyway for OC. Thats why I went with the Z-Serie Mobo, because it should work better with a Ryzen X, but if there is no need to get a Ryzen X than there is no need to get a Z-Serie Mobo.

Yeah, it really looks like I will need to get a 1080 TI, to get the performance I'm looking for.

Well if no MSI, I will go with a ASUS Mobo, thanks to you and @Devin92 for telling me, because I have a MSI motherboard in my system right now and I'm happy with it, thats why I thought I'll go with MSI again.

Ok, thanks for the hint, because I don't know much about PSUs, just that they should be 80+.

Didnt know this as well, thanks, but I did choose the M.2 SSD because it has faster data travel, not only for booting, like I'm using photoshop as well and I often download big packs of content, and I want it to extract it faster, thats what the M.2 is good for, right?

First of all, there are M.2 SSDs that use SATA protocol, which makes them a lot slower than others using NVMe. SSDs using SATA ports are guaranteed to run only SATA though.

Secondly, If you have the budget, get a single large NVMe drive. What I'm trying to say is that smaller (below 300GB) NVMe drives arent worth it because NVMe's speed advantage to SATA SSDs only shows when reading / writing huge files. Windows dont benefit from NVMe doesnt mean other apps dont.

Ok, perfect, because I don't wanna wait much longer :D
