Ratelimited got DMCA'd by LMG?!

Joshuabishop4

I was just chilling on the Ratelimited Discord, great place BTW and then Asa said that he got a DMCA complaint by Linus Media Group for leaking a upcoming video somehow. Also he said he's part of the legal department. Below are his messages.

I don't want to start a war, just seeing if this is legit or something.

That seems like a justifiable reason to DCMA someone.

I know that, but ratelimited is the service, there's nothing they could of done to prevent it

That is how DMCA notices are supposed to work - if the site has copyrighted content, they are served a notice to remove the content. It's not a punishment for the site, just a notice that they are required to remove the file to comply with the law.

I'm confused, if LMG says they shouldn't have it (regardless of it being available or not) it seems to make sense they ask them to remove it? At least if LMG does indeed own the video they are talking about.

Then there's also the question how the video got there but that's probably a different discussion, i think...

Don't really see the problem here?

If you want my attention, quote meh! D: or just stick an @samcool55 in your post :3

I was just wondering if this was a legit claim since he's been known to lie before about incidents

Doesn't seem like something to lie about. DCMAs are nothing but formal requests.

LMG has DCMA'd itself before lol...

I remember in the what is like to work for LMG, Colton said he got a copyright strike on the channel.

Well, if it's legit then they'd be well within their rights to protect their content. If I had to guess I'd say probably something from Floatplane that's not scheduled for release elsewhere yet. And if the guy is just lying to get attention, then congrats you gave it, but it's not exactly the kind of thing he should be proud of. So... Meh.

Anyone who tells you that you can't do something is unimaginative and probably a coward.
