Elgato HD 60 S Type C cable support

Skiiwee29

So I am in the process of ordering a bunch of new cables for my setup so I can do much better cable management on my desk. What I am trying to find out is if the Elgato HD 60 S supports Type C to Type C cables? It works just fine with the Type C to Type A cable it comes with and I tried my wife's Type C to Type C cable from her Google Pixel phone, but it doesn't seem to recognize a connection. Spending the last 15 or so minutes googling around doesn't seem to provide me with any answers. My motherboard has a Type C 3.1 port that I wanted to utilize but now I don't think I will be able to?

Anyone have any thoughts or ideas?

Some phone type C cables only have some of the pins.

If you buy a good quality type C cable it should have all the pins and work correctly just like C to A does.

All I can say is that with the Elgato HD (the version before that HD60) I had a hard time finding a USB cable (other than the original) that worked with it.

It used a Type A to mini B (2.0) connector and a couple different cables I tried (including the original PS3 controller charging cable, some external hard drive cable and some two more random ones) all resulted in nothing, zilch, nada. So I suppose Elgato products have always not really liked any cables other than the original ones..?

Maybe Elgato's support can help your further or maybe provide you with a list of USB C-C cables they tried that worked.

The phones type C cable may only be at usb 2.0 speeds.

You are right I think on this. Looking around on Amazon, most of the Type C to Type C are USB 2...

So I have a response from Elgato. Type C to Type c will work. So now I need to find one that is about 8ft long.

Reese Kersteter replied:

Hi Joe,

Thank you for contacting Elgato Systems.

We appreciate your interest in the Elgato Game Capture HD60 S. I am happy to answer your questions.

USB C to USB C cable should work with no issues. It is important to connect directly to a USB port on your computer. We have seen issues with many USB hubs and adapters.

I do not have any specific brands of cable to suggest. as long as it is of good quality and rated for both power and data.

Please feel free to reach out if you have any other questions or concerns we would be glad to help.

Cheers
Reese K
