Boosting an SSD.

That's about it.

it gives intel your money.

Optane SSD will be out at a later date, give intel your money then.

You could put one tiny tiny application on it and open that in a negative amount of time from when you click it but that about it tbh

CPU: R5 3600 @ 4.4 GHz

RAM: 16GB DDR4 @ 3200 MHz

What about an NVMe SSD? Anyone ever tried it?

I'm not sure, I don't see why not.  You hardly see an improvement with Optane + SSD though.  I doubt that Optane with an NVMe SSD would be worth your money.

Optane gives about an order of magnitude higher single thread random read (hundreds of MB/s) compared to even high end NVMe drives (tens of MB/s). I keep debating if I should blow a ton of cash on a pair of 32GB Optanes, raid 0 it, to have 1 second off load times. Because I can. It has to be a pair as the game I want to speed up is about 32GB in size, so wouldn't fit on one with any expanding potential. There was a short time when some retailers had listed bigger sizes than 32GB as pre-order, but they disappeared. It seems like there might have been planning for something that got pulled.

The enterprise Optane SSD is a bit too spendy for me...

Main system: i9-7980XE, Asus X299 TUF mark 2, Noctua D15, Corsair Vengeance Pro 3200 3x 16GB 2R, RTX 3070, NZXT E850, GameMax Abyss, Samsung 980 Pro 2TB, Acer Predator XB241YU 24" 1440p 144Hz G-Sync + HP LP2475w 24" 1200p 60Hz wide gamut
Gaming laptop: Lenovo Legion 5, 5800H, RTX 3070, Kingston DDR4 3200C22 2x16GB 2Rx8, Kingston Fury Renegade 1TB + Crucial P1 1TB SSD, 165 Hz IPS 1080p G-Sync Compatible
