Help a Noob

Ryan_1998

I am looking to be able to play games like Overwatch, PUBG, BF4 but my pc has never liked these sorts of games therefore I have stuck to Minecraft/league and lower end games.

Brought this pc pre built, and yes I know its pretty bad but I need advice on making it able to play with higher fps as currently over watch in unplayable with the low fps.

Pc specs-

Processor -  AMD FX(tm)-4350 Quad-Core Processor, 4219 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s) 4.22 GHz

Motherboard- _0170a8c3dc5a71c3b5db8fc2f20d3cb5-png.jpg

8GB RAM Hyper X  DDR3

GPU- GTX 1060 6gb- recent brought 6 months ago

Corsair Cx 600watt Psu

Samsung 250 Gb SSD

Just need advice, is there a way I could upgrade cpu without changing the moba? and if I did change would I need entire new ram ect

You could change the CPU to an FX 6300 or 8320, but that would honestly just be a stop-gap fix.

Your best bet would be to upgrade to a whole new platform, so a Ryzen 3 or 5 would be a great step up for you. But this would mean a new motherboard and DDR4 RAM as well.

The New Machine: Intel 11700K / Strix Z590-A WIFI II / Patriot Viper Steel 4400MHz 2x8GB / Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC w/ Bykski WB / x4 1TB SSDs (x2 M.2, x2 2.5) / Corsair 5000D Airflow White / EVGA G6 1000W / Custom Loop CPU & GPU

The Rainbow X58: i7 975 Extreme Edition @4.2GHz, Asus Sabertooth X58, 6x2GB Mushkin Redline DDR3-1600 @2000MHz, SP 256GB Gen3 M.2 w/ Sabrent M.2 to PCI-E, Inno3D GTX 580 x2 SLI w/ Heatkiller waterblocks, Custom loop in NZXT Phantom White, Corsair XR7 360 rad hanging off the rear end, 360 slim rad up top. RGB everywhere.

Your CPU is going to be a huge bottleneck. Upgrade it to a Ryzen or i5

Yep, just get a newer CPU in the AMD FX Lineup.

However, AMD FX is a pretty dead platform with lots of people upgrading, which means you should be able to snag some 8350's for cheap.

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

Not necessarily in gaming. You can see a FPS boost of up to 20 FPS in games like GTA 5 or project cars with an i5.

Ryzen 3 1200 with a B350 motherboard and 1x8GB DDR4 would be a decent upgrade. 1600 and 2x8GB if possible.

Alternatively, an unlocked Sandy Bridge, Ivy Bridge or Haswell I5 or I7 with an overclocking board.

:)

Really? Can you link me some videos? I haven't seen any i5 with 20fps more than Ryzen 5.

There are potential CPU upgrades where you can keep your current motherboard and RAM, however, they're not worth it. They'll offer little, if any noticeable difference in the likes of Battlefield and PUBG, and the CPU is definitely bottlenecking you there. Aim for a Ryzen 5 upgrade with at least 8GB 2666MHz+ RAM. Ryzen 3 1200 would be fine if it's all you can afford, but I'd really be aiming for at least an R5 1400, R5 1600 if you can manage.
