7980xe Early Benchmarks

I'll stick to buying Xeons on eBay. I have purchased two Xeons from two years ago for only $700 each and they marginally outperform the Core i9-7980XE in multi-core workloads.

Well, the specific Xeons I got aren't great for gaming, but I don't use my PC mainly for gaming so that's okay. These Xeons have a base clock of 2.3 GHz.

What Xeons at 2.3GHz are outrunning the 7980xe?  They would have to be what?  36 cores?

Yes! The boast clock is 3.6 GHz.

AMD offers the most cores for a single CPU. 32 to be exact.

Used E5-2683 v3 (OEM/Retail) is the best deal IMO.

Some things I noticed/thoughts

7980XE should have a TDP of 190w not 165w

7980XE uses crazy amounts of power when overclocked (see PCPer)

Very fast CPU, but I feel it should be more priced at $1600~

It's not been too surprising the results. The 7960X will outperform the 7980XE in certain tasks, both will be a bit better than the Threadripper 1950X. Both will OC but you better have a good board or those VRMs are going to melt.
