Upgrading 6 pin to 8 pin connector GTX 1060

EricStar

HI,

This is my first post in this forum. :) Got a question...

I am wondering whether it's possible to change the existing 6 pin connector of the Gigabyte GTX 1060 Windforce OC 6GB and soldering on a 8 pin connector? Is this advisable?

From the looks of the pcb board there are 2 more soldering holes beside the 6 pin which is "sealed" with just normal soldering, which got me thinking of this.

Reading the web, reveals that by having a 8 pin, this provides up to 150% more power thus more performance, but I am not sure whether the pcb design of this card could not take the extra power...

Any thoughts?

Cheers from the other side of the world...

more power consumption does not mean more performance. im unsure if this is even a thing. 0/10, would not advise

Shunt mod would be better imo. 6P connector is rated for 75W and 8P connector is 150W. Or well that's what's advised anyway. Reality is they can go much, much higher.

Although I hear Pascal can be a bit so so with a shunt mod. More power won't necessarily mean more OC. Best thing you can do is just try and pull temps down.

theres 6 pin to 8 pin connectors. could try it, but idk if youll be pulling the 150w out of the PSU, since 6 pin only pulls the 75w as stated above

Realistically you're also looking at modifying most of the board.

Sure, there's room for components that weren't used, but that doesn't mean it'll actually work after adding them.

Interesting... Probably not a good idea to mess around with the pin connector.

BTW has anyone tried the NZXT G12? M looking at going the temp reduction way as dildor recommends..
