im thinking about buying a ryzen 1300x and pairing it with a gtx 1060 6gb would this be a ok pair and would the ryzen 1300x be ok for the oculus rift?

What's your budget? I would recommend trying to stretch for a 1400, or just save a few dollars and get the 1200. 1200 and 1060 should be fine, also for VR.

Yup, just not necessarily worth the extra money if you're on a tight budget. Same reason the 1400 is more popular than 1500x, 1600 more so than the 1600x, and 1700 more than the 1700x or 1800x. Incremental bumps in clock speeds don't justify spending more for everyone.
