Not everybody on the right is racist or sexist - including those on the extreme right.

Hence why it's a joke, silly. I'm making myself into a caricature of what a person on each side of the political spectrum generally says about the other side, with a bit of lunacy added in to make it spicy. Admittedly, I didn't quite nail it as well as I could've, because I flip-flopped between only making fun of myself (hence why the "normal" left has the terms "reasonable" and "logical,") and making fun of the hilarity of it all, so I'll probably edit it later to make it fit better, assuming I'm not too lazy.

Why is the God of Hyperdeath SO...DARN...CUTE!?

I understood, I think it was when you said: " lease note: This was 100.1% a joke",  That I think most of us got the impression you were joking.

Wow, I actually communicated something! On the internet! I'm so happy I could cry!!!

I should probably stop with the snark, shouldn't I? I've derailed the thread enough already. *sliiiiides out of the thread to let the serious people do their thing*

Why stop now.  Snark away.  It's not like the thread was going anywhere anyway.

If companies cannot just do whatever they want then you're no longer talking about Capitalism. You're talking about a Socialist Democracy where certain goods and services are deemed as too important to leave up to the market and then the government takes control to regulate or directly run.

ISPs probably should remain under this "regulated" sphere but entertainment services? It seems like you're going a step too far for most people: what you're asking for would eventually devolve into State Propaganda. Too totalitarian to fuck with people's entertainment and access to information.

You don't let ordinary people do whatever they want in society, there are rules. There should be rules that corporations and the government have to follow as well.

Neither extreme works. Socialist/Communist societies don't work on their own because people don't like being slaves for the state, and hyper capitalist corporatism doesn't work because people don't like being slaves for companies.

You have to have rules of some kind. I think we need much stronger rules than we have now, but that's beyond the scope of this thread.

It's not just me, though, it is the majority.

So... how is this Google's fault? If people are too lazy to stand against what they believe are bad business practices, why should the government, Google, or anyone else care? How does that affect people who do actually use other services? If you want Google to maintain its dominant position but, at the same time, listen to your every complaint, you need a reality check. They can legally do everything they're doing and no law will be made to stop them because there are no grounds for it. Deal with it or use something else.

That is what's being discussed. If you're opinion doesn't line up with the opinion of theses large companies they can remove you from their platform. Before that wasn't an issue but now most people get their info from places like twitter and FaceBook. If you can't talk there you are severely limited in your reach. You can host your own site but how many people new about The Daily Stormer and how many people actually even visited the site vs FaceBook/Twitter? If Google and other search engines stops indexing the Daily stormer how would average people get to it assuming it still has a domain?

But is is for most people. Most people max out at using Google. That doesn't mean they won't want to express something.

Again, THAT IS HOW IT WORKS. And it is how it SHOULD work. You are not entitled to a stage. Freedom of speech is not instant right to a spotlight regardless of what you are saying. All freedom of speech guarantees is that the law will not prosecute you for saying or writing what you think. Period. Having people listen to you is a privilege that you can earn. The fact that you wrote a book does not mean you have a right to have it published - why should it be any different with what you post on the internet?

If my site is no longer indexed by Google and I've moved away from using their stuff I still lose out on 1.2 Billion people who do which seems to be about 76% of people using search engines.

Well too bad. You are not entitled to being hosted on the most popular platform just by virtue of it being the most popular. If anyone cares about hearing what you have to say they'll find you. If they DON'T care, then perhaps giving you a massive microphone with speakers in everyone's home is a bad idea. The entitlement levels here are appalling. Try strolling into a major theatre or TV station and demanding to speak to the audience, see how they react.

This is an issue. Average people in a large group aren't smart. Even if Google starts censoring large swaths of the internet if they do it slowly people won't really notice and the few that do and make an effort to try to stop it will be ignored and brushed aside.

Snowden showed what the US government was doing. Unfortunately people are apathetic to things they can't directly see. Because of that either the government has to take initiative or a large organization needs to fight. Average people just won't bother.

[...]

My point is that companies like FaceBook and Google should not be able to control what the general populace sees. ISPs are part of this too but people AND large companies like FaceBook, Twitter, Google, Apple.... plus organisations are fighting them. Some people are aware of what they stand to lose and the large companies don't want to pay the new fees the ISPs would introduce. This doesn't exist for companies ability to censor people.

So I guess everyone but you is stupid and can't tell when their rights are being stepped on. We're oh so lucky to have your illuminating view of the facts shared with us. Quick, let's introduce an oligarchy where only those WE deem to be smart enough have a say in what is and isn't allowed.

Google is not censoring anything, see above. ISPs are being fought because they have direct control on what comes in and out of your connection and abuse that power for anti-competitive practices. Google does no such thing.

I also love how first you say we can't trust the government OR people, then want the government elected by people to take your stance on this.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨
