that's an extremely tight budget here in Aus, you will need to buy used most likely and look at older components, best you could do new would be a grand just for the pc itself

he didn't say he doesn't want a ryzen, just that he doesn't know anything about AMD's lineup, calm down

"I would pefer Intel/Nvidia combo" Sure, he isn't explicitly saying that he doesn't want Ryzen, but it just helps to be open. I'm completely calm.

cool, if he wants a budget gaming rig in any case (including a monitor) he'll want to extend his budget to 1200 or so at least, prices are murder at the moment :/

edit: make some wishlists on various retailers sites such as PC case gear, newegg aus etc and tinker with builds until you find a mix that suits your preferences. if you're building for a friend it will be good experience for you rather than just outright asking someone else to do it.

AMD isn't that hard to understand just divide the number of cores it says it has by two and that's how many intel cores it has. the ghz rating is the same.

if his friend is interested in wringing all the perf out of a Ryzen he'll want to up to a b350 to OC as well as r3 being trash according to most youtube personalities, may want to go up to r5 1500 territory

that is a B350 motherboard, just not a good board.

what? maybe back on FX the first bit was true, but the second is not at all. learn what IPC is and come back to me.

my mistake, i was getting mixed up with the A series boards, misread the AB350. still though, R3 is basically just an old i5 4460, maybe not even that much in terms of perf. Need the hyper-threading to get a bit more juice out of it
