Soon I am going on a trip and riding in a vehicle for 42 hours. Its one of those GMC trucks with wifi. So on onstars website it has "Unlimited data" and I look and there seems to be no catches. So I call and activate and after I purchase it I am told I have 20gb and then limited speed.

my 150/15 service (cable) gets 200/17 during peak times

if you manage to find it on a deal because they made too much profit last quarter you can get canada wide home phone with some random asian call pack for $15

 

and $10 TV with 16 channels.

Regulation to fix the regulation to fix the regulation to fix the regulation. That's all I see here. Let ISPs compete with each other directly in the same markets, then you can choose a service that doesn't suck. And you can bet on them to stop sucking because they want to keep your business. The way it is now, you don't have a choice. There's no incentive to improve. Competition, loss of customers and loss of revenue is the incentive. Less regulation, not more.

pointless when they buy each other off and only two big one remain and simply split the map in 2 and decide not to interfere in the others turf

Don't expect any results. Trump has no intention of helping the people. The FCC doesn't give two shits. Might I suggest you complain to your state government and see where you get.
