x8 3.0 per card would be enough

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

SLI requires 8 lanes, so 16 is enough.

16 is fine, 8x for each.

Me too, but that's what Nvidia hard-wired it's GPUs to do. If they don't have 8 lanes or more, SLI don't work. However, back when PCIe 2.0 is the norm, SLI happily starts with each card at 8x, but remember than PCIe 2.0 x8 has the same bandwidth as PCIe 3.0 x4, so.........
