Looking for decent desk speakers that don't take up a lot of space

NoxiousOdor

Hello

I am looking for decent quality desk speakers for somewhere around 100USD give or take some it doesn't need to be exact just that ballpark. I am looking for speakers that don't take up a lot of space as my desk isn't very big and I have two monitors on it already. It is easy enough to go on amazon and look at the reviews for speakers but I thought I would check to see if anyone knew of any that they would recommend.

If there are any that are more expensive that you would recommend for various reasons I would be interested in hearing about those too. I am not an audiophile but I do appreciate good sound quality

Small, cheap, good. Pick any two. Typical recommendation of Klipsch Promedia 2.1 or Logitec z623 for craptastic multimedia speakers that fit on a desk.

What the ... I was going to suggest my already very old/dated Logitec 5.1 speakers. Very happy with them, and they still produce a good quality sound. But after looking up them prices, they are about twice as expencive when I bought them ~10 years ago?!? (at least they look the same)

Mine look identical, and I've payed about 150 euro for them 10 years ago.

Yup, Logitech makes some of the best small speaker/woofer units out there. My dad has had a couple sets and they're amazingly good.

Vanatoo Transparent Zero. $300. May be slightly bigger than you are looking for, but in the scheme of things these are small speakers. The iLoud Micro Monitor is also supposedly good; same price but even smaller.

Avoid the Audioengine A2+. These speakers are a bit overpriced and sound a bit crap.

Hot garbage. If going logitec, the z623 is far superior.

If all you are doing is watching vids and listening to music and aren't an audio file for desktop speakers (you should really just use headphones) they are pretty good.

Depending on what you want. If you want the best audio quality you are in the wrong place. Should check out the headphones section. I'm just recommending something cheap that works and works better than built in monitor speakers.

I do have headphones but my room gets really warm and they get uncomfortable after several hours, also speakers are nice when I'm showing other people things that we both want to hear

I feel ya. My little brother likes to watch and blab with me about KOTOR, so I have to crank up the volume to hear it through my headphones on the desk. Speakers are defo handy (I'm just too cheap to buy some).

Wrong. They're objective trash and there are better speakers around the price range. Seeing as the OP has a budget of $100, there really isn't any point even acknowledging their existence.

Thanks for the recommendations, The Vanatoo ones are a bit overkill for what I need but I will definitely keep those in mind if I get more space and/or my needs change because I do like them. The iLoud speakers would work a little easier for my set up, I might look into those more.

Other than the price they fit what I am looking for (which hints I should up my budget) but then again if I am going to spend 300 on speakers perhaps I should go with the Vanatoo because for the same price they seem be more versatile and probably sound better. I am torn now, thank you again for the recommendations.

No problem. The speakers I mentioned before, the Logitech and Klipsch sound like about what you need. They aren't terrible and should fit the footprint. I would be more comfortable recommending the $300 speakers, but quality can't always be the top priority.

You aren't calling a spade a spade

He asked for a pair of small speakers that cost up to $100, that doesn't mean spending that much is a good idea.

You can think they are trash speakers, that doesn't affect anyone other than you, but the Z313s fall within the OPs needs. He can choose to buy more expensive ones but that's up to him. The Z313s check all the boxes, im not saying they check those boxes in the best way, but they check them.

Compared to what? If all you had were monitor speakers or even nothing at all then they certainly suffice and are massively better than what they had before.

Okay friends lets not fight, I don't even completely know what I want yet. That is what the thread was for was to get an idea of what I might be interested in and for that purpose it has proved successful, I know what speakers are available for the price I mentioned and also what I can expect to pay for speakers that would be have better sound quality and meet the other requirements

If you can spend 150$ then get the modhouse speakers and to get the best sound you need to angle them upwards towards your ears. Remember to buy them with the little amp.

If you can't spend 150$ or can't wait and save up the extra 50$ then I guess the logitech options are your best bet for something small. I would strongly recommend spending the extra 50$ or go full in and get the Transparent Zeros.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

Laptop: ThinkPad P50: i7 6820HQ, M2000M. ThinkPad T420s: i7 2640M, NVS 4200M

If money is no issue I'd just go with HDP6 from audioengine and just get a pre-amp and a power amp and call it a day.
