Does 6GB GTX 1060 make a huge difference over 3GB GTX 1060?

So i'm in the market to buy a new GPU for my build and im interested in the 1060 but im wondering if i should save some extra cash and go for a 3gb or get a 6gb

Yes, the GTX 1060 3gb not only has just half the memory it also is a slower processing chip.

I would get the 6GB one since it has more VRAM and more CUDA cores. If you want to save some money get a 650W PSU instead since you won't need near 750W.

I am buying the case and ram first soon then get the rest of my parts at a local microcenter

got it! however im a bit worried cuz my plan is to get a 1060 6GB and save up for the new GPU next year or if thats too expensive cop a 1080 TI when that gets a price drop

Get the 6gb, its more poweful and has twice the vram

You get about as much as you pay for between the 3gb and 6gb.  A lot of AAA games or poorly optimized titles will like the extra vRAM for textures.  But most of the time, the 3gb will do about 90 percent as good as the 6gb.  You can lower texture quality in some games and get along fine with no stutter.

A few months ago the 6gb was an easy win but the mining craze kinda makes it a no clear winner scenario.

The 6gb version is quite a bit better, but if you're just looking for a placeholder and plan to upgrade next year anyway, why not get a 1050 Ti?

What games do you play? That'll have a big impact on suggestions if you're intending to replace the card soon anyway.

I'd also suggest dropping to a 650w, or even a 550w PSU if you're sticking with Intel/Nvidia. The money saved can go into other items.
