Posted August 6, 2017 I'm currently in the market for a budget gaming laptop and I had the Acer Aspire 5 with the new MX150 GPU in mind. However, after some digging around my local online store, I found a cheaper model of the Aspire 5 which came with an AMD A12-9720P CPU rather than an Intel Core i5-7200U and more importantly, an RX 540 GPU rather than the MX150. After some research, I found out that the RX 540 performs better than the 950M but worse than the 960M; same performance range as the MX150. Wattages, however, are higher on the RX 540, with a rating of 35 W whereas the MX150 has a rated wattage of 25 W. Things get even weirder as the price of the laptop with the RX 540 costs 180 MYR (40 USD) less than the one with the MX150. Here are their links: 1. Acer Aspire 5 (i5-7200U + MX150) [2488 MYR / 580 USD] 2. Acer Aspire 5 (A12-9720P + RX 540) [2308 MYR / 540 USD] Should I go for the laptop with the RX 540? Am I losing (or gaining) any performance if I go for it? Will it suffer from worse battery life due to the higher wattages? Or should I just stick with the MX150? Thanks! Posted August 6, 2017 7200U + MX150. MX150 is faster than RX550 desktop, as it is on par with the GT1030. FX, is just no comparison. I5 is so much faster idk

Posted August 6, 2017 The AMD CPU above is even slower than a 4th/5th gen mobile i3. Terrible performance, avoid. Posted August 6, 2017 The A12 is too old, the Intel model will perform significantly better.
