So, in short, I'm working on a SFF build using an RVZ01-E case with mostly recycled components, including a mobile i7 2630QM CPU at the heart.  Since the goal is to used as many recycled components as possible, I'm reusing a five year old Corsair CX600 (Not to be confused with the semi-modular CX600M version) that's around five years old.  ...Let's ignore that later today I'll be disassembling it and cutting excess cables off the PSU. :P

BUT ANYWAY.  I'm having trouble finding a a 'Johnny Guru quality review' on the CX600 and I was wondering if anyone could point me to a detailed review so I can see the nuts and bolts performance of the CX600 and I was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction.

i wouldnt recommend the CXs, although they are good but they're are much better options and not that expensive, you could try the RM650x, which is a pretty solid and reliable PSU for gaming.

1) Not buying a new PSU for this build unless the CX600 blows up.  As stated the objective is to recycle as many components as possible.  Really, only the case a new purchase.

2) If I was making a new purchase, I'd be willing to argue that 650w new purchase might be over kill for a system who's CPU is a 45w TDP laptop CPU.

3) The RM650x will not physically fit inside an RVZ01-E.

I couldn't find anything. It's probably too old, and not of the caliber most reviewers were looking for. JGuru didn't seem interested in testing it and instead said he'd be testing the newer version, so it was likely a little before his in depth reviews.

Though, does it matter? I assume you'd be using it regardless of what the reviews say.

Actually there's this. Google Translate is your friend.

You're right, it doesn't MATTER, this is more curiosity since most PSUs are on JonnyGuru and have useful bits of information available which I find interesting.   So it's a quest for detailed information but it's not game breaking.

As for how to use a laptop CPU, I actually found an industrial ITX motherboard, designed for ATMs, Kiosks, and things like that, on eBay that is Socket G2, uses SODIMM memory, and offers a PCIE 2.0 16x slot.  So the build is me recycling my six year old laptop and some other parts plus a shiney new SFF case into a desktop.  You can see my build thread here.  Later today we'll be hitting the lap to do PSU surgery since the Molex and second string of SATA connectors off the PSU since I have NO space to cram them so they gotta go.  Also we'll be fixing what appears to be a cold solder joint in the EATX connector.  So more photos will be posted today as we progress.

Very interesting! I had no idea that motherboards were made with such sockets. What's your total investment so far?
Just be careful when you crack open that PSU!

$87.40 USD for the mobo, bought used obviously.

$118.91 USD for the case, new in box.

Both prices include the cost of shipping.

I'm expecting a few other minor costs, like I need some short, 6 inch or so, SATA cables, ya know odds and ends.  I'm also undecided on trying to add USB3 via a mPCIE (It has a mPCIE slot on the back) card with an extension riser.  Since this would be a hack job and it'd need extra wiring to provide power, I'm unsure if this is even worth the effort and trying to make the space or if I should just use a simple adapter to hook the front USB3 ports to a USB2 header on the mobo.  Oh I also need to find an alternative cooler  The one the board came with hit 96'C running GTA5 with the R9 390X plugged in.  Socket G2 coolers aren't common so I'm unsure if I'll modify/zip tie something else or find an alternative G2 cooler.

Everything else will be pulled from the laptop, spare parts, or hand-me-downs.

What GPU are you pairing the CX600 with?

Also the V3 CX600 is identically internally to the M models.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.

It's undecided, but with a 45w CPU, even if we assume another 55w for everything else, mobo, storage, any USB drives, and that's super generous since the mobo uses a mobile chipset, that leaves me with a HUGE range to power any GPU I put in there.  It'd take  pretty extreme GPU to worry about overloading a 600w PSU, wouldn't it?  I'm not even sure it's possible since on paper no GPU can exceed 375w though I've read about things like dual chip Radeon cards going over.  But I think that, realistically, to overload that PSU, I'd have to make it my specific MISSION to get even close to doing that.

While I'm undecided on GPU, I can safely say it won't be a Radeon Pro Duo or TItan XPp, so there's no reason to worry, right?

I'm just asking what GPU you have man...

The CX600 would be fine with something up to like a 1070 IMO.

I'm not sure.  I was thinking of maybe getting a HD 7970 or something or it may get a hand-me-down.  Even though I'll likely test it and toy with bigger things like a Vega 64 I'll likely get in the fall.  ...IF only to see what Vega 64 can do with a six year old laptop CPU. :)

Not bad! Should be a pretty solid build once it's all done. I'm assuming you can't overclock the CPU with that motherboard though? I don't think USB 3.0 is necessary unless you plan on transferring data on a regular basis. Haha, I imagine coolers for those are pretty rare eh? Have you tried just mounting fans around it to dissipate the heat?

While it's a desktop board, it still uses a mobile chipset, so it has no overclocking options what-so-ever.  No voltage options or anything.  I can basically disable cores, turn off Turbo, and disable HT, and that's as much control over it as I get.  Though it apparently technically supports Intel's Switchable Graphics, but I have no idea if Windows 10 desktop or discrete GPUs can support that.

Maybe it's possible to modify the BIOS to unlock things but I have no idea.  I can't deny that if POSSIBLE, to lock the CPU to 2.9ghz on each core, which is it's max turbo, could be an improvement, but I imagine that'd put the CPU above it's 45w TDP rating so you'd also need a cooling solution.
