Can I use Type-C port on the 2017 Ryzen motherboards as Video-out?

No because :

-Ryzen has no igpu

-despite the usb C connector , those ports only support the usb protocol , not the thunderbolt protocol in the ports present on the macbook

I have a monitor that only has DisplayPort, DVI, and HDMI connections. However I have been using it with Type-C - DisplayPort adapter to my new macbook pro 2016.

 

I want to buy a new desktop PC with Ryzen CPU to use it with my current monitor.

If I choose the new motherboard based on the availability of DisplayPort, then it will give me only few motherboards to choose.

I don't want the motherboards that only has HDMI port as it only support 30 hz refresh rate.

 

When I see my new macbook pro connected with the monitor with Type-C, I also see that some of the new ryzen motherboards have USB Type-C ports but no DisplayPort. 

For example http://www.asrock.com/mb/AMD/Fatal1ty X370 Gaming-ITXac/ (wonder who would use the 2 HDMI that only supports 30hz).

This motherboard got a Type-C port but no DisplayPort.

 

So my question is that can I use the Type-C port on the Ryzen motherboards as a video-out? Even with the DisplayPort-Type-C dongle? Will it reach 60hz? Anybody is currently using this setup?

If this is possible, then I can widen my options.

Ryzen has no igpu, the video port is for upcoming apu that uses same socket

No because Ryzen doesn't have intergrated, and there isn't a type-c on the GPU.

No, there will be CPUs coming out in Q3/Q4 that have iGPUs, and they use the same socket. So they have to have one. You have to use the GPU, which 99% of the time have Displayport.

Correct, unless that specific board has on-board graphics (most don't these days, I can't think of any that do). Like was said above those ports are probably there for future APUs that will have iGPUs.

Are you getting weird fan behavior, speed fluctuations, and/or other issues with Link?

Are you running AIDA64, HWinfo, CAM, or HWmonitor? (ASUS suite & other monitoring software often have the same issue.)

Corsair Link has problems with some monitoring software so you may have to change some settings to get them to work smoothly.

-For AIDA64: First make sure you have the newest update installed, then, go to Preferences>Stability and make sure the "Corsair Link sensor support" box is checked and make sure the "Asetek LC sensor support" box is UNchecked.

-For HWinfo: manually disable all monitoring of the AIO sensors/components.

-For others: Disable any monitoring of Corsair AIO sensors.

That should fix the fan issue for some Corsair AIOs (H80i GT/v2, H110i GTX/H115i, H100i GTX and others made by Asetek). The problem is bad coding in Link that fights for AIO control with other programs. You can test if this worked by setting the fan speed in Link to 100%, if it doesn't fluctuate you are set and can change the curve to whatever. If that doesn't work or you're still having other issues then you probably still have a monitoring software interfering with the AIO/Link communications, find what it is and disable it.

Like the others have said, the current Ryzen chips on the market don't have any GPUs.

If you go to the specifications page on the motherboard you linked you will see this:

Basically, you won't get video out even from the HDMI ports if you go for a chip like the Ryzen 1600 or 1700. You will only get video output straight from the motherboard if you go for an APU (which are not Ryzen based and therefore probably not worth buying).

You will need a discrete graphics card.

You can't buy the Bulldozer AM4 ones unless you are a OEM, and the Ryzen AM4 ones are coming out later this year.

I have type c on mine too, on these mobos the type c is there for USB 3.2? usage, so upto 10Gb/s speeds, just using the type c connector instead of the 3.2 connector (usually green), it doesn't have the capability for display output (alternate mode IIRC), The alternate mode has to be supported both by the PC/device and the monitor/device.

The Ryzen that has APU most likely will be a repurposed Ryzen 3 chip. What are you doing with this computer? Are you getting a GPU?

The Ryzen that has APU most likely will be a repurposed Ryzen 3 chip. What are you doing with this computer? Are you getting a GPU?

I want to use it as a workstation for coding, games, listening to music, videos, all at the same time. So I need a high end CPU. So they will only release (at least start with) mid to low-end CPU like Ryzen 3 for the APU release?

For gaming you must have a dedicated graphics card, apu are more like low end

Don't really feel like buying a GPU but if I have to with the Ryzen 1700, then I need to buy it right?

Yeah, I know, I have memory problems and couldn't think of the actual number is all, hence the question mark. If you want to play games other than esports at 60fps 1080p, you will need a GPU.

Well not really, I managed to get by with HD 4600 playing Cities Skylines at 720p Low 30fps
