Network works nice but I can’t connect any bridges or repeaters

Metallus97

I recently got a new connection (400mbit down hell yeha :D). So I used this opportunity to optimize my network and set everything up from scratch. Plus I wanted to use Merlin firmware on my router and finally get my NAS ready to go. Everything works fine and as intended. But I can’t connect anny Media bride or extender to my network...

so here is a quick overview of my setup:

cable Box - is Running DHCP because you can’t disable it...

To connect my router I am using a different subnet

so the wan adress of the router (thous the adress the cable box gives him over DHCP is 192.168.0.10 (box itself being 0.1)

now the LAN adres of my wifi router is 192.168.1.1 (and 1.X is the room his DHCP gives addresses to my clients)

works fine....  but I can’t connect anny range extemders or media brigades.

could this be related to the different subnets?

What do you mean you cant connect any range extenders or media bridges? What happens when you try?

I don’t think the problem is about the wifi

for configuration and testing I had everything in the same room.

it has to be something about NAT DNS or subnets I don’t know

Here is what I would do. First disable DHCP, Firewall and NAT on your router. Connect it LAN to LAN. This way the ISP box handles DHCP. This way your not double NATed and have to deal with that. Make sure you disable wireless on the ISP supplied box. Even better if you can buy a standard modem and use that. But I know a lot of nations around the world have funny rules about people owning their own equipment. Here in the US we are allowed to buy Cable modems. Actually I think its actually a rule by the FCC.

The with range extenders they have to be in range of the router. Actually from what I read you need to make sure they get a good ass signal. So you might need to move them closer.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

Germany has nice rules we are allowed to have or own modems.

But with one my TV and phone will not work... it is all in one box and you need to have this shit box...

I cant disable DHCP or NAT... Firewall did not change anything and seems a bit risky...

You disable DHCP and NAT on the 2nd router, not the ISP box. This allows the ISP box to control the DHCP and then you just effectively extend the network with the 2nd router allowing it to control the WiFi. I know the config works, as I had the same config with Comcast at one time.
