144hz for mostly gaming

1440p for gaming something like cities skylines and mostly derping around on youtube or discord.

138 is a good number.

If your main use is gaming, 144Hz, but if you do a lot of other stuff too then a 1440p

this really comes down to you, some like higher Hz over resolution and other people like res over Hz.

I have played at 120Hz 1080p and TBH for me my 1440p 60Hz screen gives me more enjoyment, even when I game, it just looks better and yes I play a lot of FPS games, but I also have friends that would take a 120/144Hz 1080p screen over a 1440p screen.

Before you buy amp and dac.  My thoughts on the M50x  Ultimate Ears Reference monitor review I might have a thing for audio...

My main Headphones and IEMs:  K612 pro, HD 25 and Ultimate Ears Reference Monitor, HD 580 with HD 600 grills

DAC and AMP: RME ADI 2 DAC

Speakers: Genelec 8040, System Audio SA205

Receiver: Denon AVR-1612

Desktop: R7 1700, GTX 1080  RX 580 8GB and other stuff

If you haven't felt 144Hz don't do it now lol

 

I would go for the higher resolution over the refresh rate.

1080p 144hz is much nicer. Mainly because 1440p is only slightly sharper than 1080p.
 

But I would recommend 1440p 144hz over 2160p also.

Competitive gaming  = refresh rate. 

 

Non-competitive = resolution. 

 

In competitive games you really want you screen to refresh as soon as possible so you're not waiting for your monitor to refresh only to see that the enemy is already around the corner shooting you.
