Hi,

since I took my GPU out last week to RMA it I have very strange boot issues which I can´t nail down exactly. That´s why I chose this thread.

So it all began after I booted with the iGPU and browsing the web for a while. My screen went black and lost signal with windows unplugging something sound. So I rebooted but after the loading circle I loose signal again.

I thought F it and used my crappy laptop for the week. Today I recieved my replacement GPU so I installed it and got a hardware configuration changed press F2 blabla...

But after even changing to defaults and auto settings, I manage to get Windows loading to get a message that a file is corrupted and pressing the suggested enter, F8 or ESC keys get me to the same screen.

So I unplugged everything and besides one stick of RAM and the boot SSD and all I get is my mobo having a disco party with every LED it has switching on then off but the next one goes on.

I have no idea what is going on. Is my mobo dying? Windows distroyed?

I´m desperate enough to click order on a whole set of new hardware:(

Hopefully someone can help me:S

CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X PBO GPU: Asus Strix RTX 3090 OC Mobo: Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master RAM: 32GB G.Skill Trident Z RGB 3600Mhz CL17

- Try taking the CMOS battery out for 5-10 mins

- Try taking your windows drive (SSD/HDD) and put it into another system and see if you get the same issue

- Try using a different installation of windows, doesn't have to be a reformat as long as its not the same as the moment

- Try a compete new set of RAM

It sounds like either the Northbridge has gone or there is a file in the OS that is corrupt. If it works with another copy of windows then you need to reformat and install, if not then I would say the mobo needs to be tested more.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Tried CMOS and still the same. I can´t try RAM because I only have DDR3 and this one DDR4 kit:(

I will try the Windows version and SSD in another system

fair enough. Did the mobo come with a speaker? does it have a post code display? You could try with no ram and it should beep.

I don´t think it has one. Neither a post code LED. It´s the system in my signature if that helps.

Here are a few things to try:

1. Stick your HDD/SSD into your laptop. If Windows BSOD's you may need to change SATA operation. If you can get logged on in this manner, proceed to step 2.

2. If you can boot into Safe Mode, download and run Device Driver Installer, or DDU. Make sure your add-in GPU is not plugged in during this.

3. Once that's done, download Device Cleanup Tool and run it.

4. After that, download CCleaner Free and try cleaning your registry.

If you're still having problems after completing any of those, you may either have a bad component or hardware resource conflicts.

So the solution was stupidly easy. After I tried everthing you suggested, I found a random HDMI cable and and connected my TV all the sudden everything worked just fine.

Until I realized that only one stick of RAM get´ s recognized. Is it my mobo dying? (kinda want it to since it annoys the living hell out of me)

It's likely. Its probably the north bridge, We had a power surge, was using surge protection but it didn't help, the north bridge on my mobo took some damage, now the display outputs for the IGPU don't work, and one of the PCI slots doesn't work. Other then that I am still fine. Make sure that it isn't the PSU.

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

Hm PSU is another hot topic in my build. Funny thing is I get display on all outputs just not DP

So it was just a bad cable. Hahahaha

Make sure the RAM is seated correctly, and if you can try a different stick.

No, not the cable, my monitor is connected with Display Port. But after connecting my TV with HDMI I got signal. Back to my monitor and it works. With my GPU. Not with the iGPU.

I will test RAM further today or tomorrow:)

So the Display Port cable was bad.

No, same cable and it works, probably just Windows issues.

But back to RAM, it tried everything including a new kit. And the right two slots are definitly dead. Left ones work fine:|

One of the reasons I don't have an expensive motherboard - they fail so fast. Mine's 5 years old and running strong, not a thing wrong with it. Original price was like $75.

well 130€ wasn´t much for Z170 at launch either but my previous Z77 from Gigabyte was also 70€ and stil works just fine after also five years

So I guess motherboards over $100 are set to fail? Idk lol Or maybe Intel's trying to cram too much shit onto the boards.
