There are a wide variety of chat services.  People are going to use the one that most of the other people they know use.

Personally, I use none of those.  On rare occasions I use mIRC at home when I am not using it in my career field.

How about no? Discord is *shudder*. Teamspeak and Skype are *shudder*. I'll stick with Mumble, Jingle, and other open options.

I agree with Ithanul:

I have several "chat" apps, but the majority of people I play online with use teamspeak....so that's what I use most of the time. One group I play with uses mIRC, so that's what I use when I play with them. My brother uses Skype for his job a lot, so that's what I use when he wants to chat.

Best Excuses:

#1(simple) "Well, I never liked that stupid thing anyway!"

#2(complex) "Obviously there was a flaw in the material, probably due to the inadvertent introduction of contaminants during the manufacturing process."

Discord is still so bad it isn't even funny. It took them 1,5 years to get basic UI things like adjusting size of texts. It still lacks video chat option which would take it to par with Skype. And still lacking file sending which was a thing already when IRC was most used chat system.
