My subscription for Norton is up in August is windows defender as good? Would like to save some dough but have no experience with Win Defender how good is it is it worth letting my sub for Norton go? TY in advance for any insight on the subject!

Not sure how it compares to that specifically but I know it's generally not quite as robust as the majority of other options, but it's far better than nothing I suppose.

As long as you're careful with your browsing and downloading experience, it's actually all you need. If you really want to go for an antivirus tho, check out ESET or Kaspersky.

I've got a free year of nod because my parents have it. But when I get a virus I always reset my pc so is there any point in downloading it

It's happened 1nce is my whole life but I tend to get virus paranoid.

I have ipvanish but I tend to only use that for financial transactions how does that come into play does it make me safer or does it make me more vulnerable?

a vpn maintains your privacy it doesn't protect your PC

It could even make you more vulnerable in theory since you're including an additional server (or more) in the path that your transactions are carried over.  Highly unlikely to have a meaningful effect one way or the other though, just an "in theory" kind of thing.

Well I have used Norton for the last 6 or 7 years and never had a virus, did wonder about the ipvanish being a risk so guess I'll call it good and just re-up my sub, thanks guys!

Norton has a lot more 'active protection', because Windows Defender is pretty much only for scanning for viruses and not for protecting your from spooky websites.
