Is it worth buying a 1080 FE

Hey everyone

 

I've found several 1080 FE's that are for sale for less than $400. That is the best price that I have seen in forever but I know the cooling on those cards kind of suck. In your opinion is it worth it to get one considering the price?

It should be fine.  If it gets too bad just throw on an accelero

Tbh FE cards are recommended for SFF cases. However for normal tower cases, it's fine too if you don't mind the extra temperature increase and noise

For less than 400 I would definitely get a FE version of the 1080. Is it new or used? Because if it is used then I might be wary of why it is priced so low.

Some are new and some used. The used ones are from reputable sellers

If they're the cheapest available at the time, hell yes.

You're not losing out any any meaningful performance. Just a card that'll sit a little hotter and be a little bit noisier. Neither are horrible, and the second point only matters if you don't use headphones when gaming.

Yeah it bothers me, people think that the FE is an entirely different card (worse) for some reason, it makes a bit more noise and it might overclock a few meaningless mhz less... I understand the idea of tech enthusiasm being that you want to squeeze the best possible but some times it makes no real sense... The card will perform as expected.

 

Even Linus says he prefers FE's and that's literally just his personal taste for the look of the cards (like me for the matter I still haven't seen an aftermarket card prettier than the FE) therefore we can just go like this:

 

If noise doesn't bother you, just pick whatever card you want, it makes no difference, if any thing favour EVGA because their customers service and warranty is the best.

If I can find another 1080 that cheap, aside from a strix I would buy it. I always prefer the metal blower cards. Just gonna put it on water anyway. Still siting at 60c with a custom loop anyway.

That is a lot of good information thank you. I had had similar thoughts but it feels nice to validate them with someone else's thoughts. I have been seeing them semi regularly around the $400 mark and i think I might snag one.
