Hello

My first question which is already solved.

Spoiler

I want to buy a cheap used GPU for my Ryzen system. This isn't about getting a gaming capeable GPU. I just need something which isn't compleatly outdated. It'll probably be raplaced when new mid-range cards are back in stock. GTX 560 Ti's seem to be cheap at the moment (25€). (I didn't want to spend more then 50€ at first but only people with GTX 560Ti's made me a good offer and since the card will hopefully be replaced soon, I'm fine with it). But this card is very old and I don't know how long it will last. And the more important question is wether the GPU can damage my motherboard or PSU when it breaks or are my other components "safe". And I've already seen a disgusting yellow "fluid" on older PCBs.

But now i ask myself how long an used GPU like the GTX 560Ti will last me until it breaks. Because the card should work at least until new mid-range cards are back in stock.

Thanks

It won't ruin damage anything by itself, the only problem could be fluid on the motherboard that might shortcircuit it (but there are protections for a reason that in this case should turn on to prevent the damage).

the worst that can happen is some capacitor juice (which is more annoying than it is dangerous) or in a one in a billion case you could maybe nuke the board if the GPU goes south REAL bad (in which case, buy a lotery ticket, you're gonna win.)

I saw this "fluid" when I opened up my gameboy color. It was on the PCB where the speaker is located I think. But I guess you can't really call it a fluid. It was more like a yellow pile of something just sitting there.

Okay. Thanks for your help guys! How long do you think a card like an used GTX 560 Ti will last until it breaks? Because it should last until new mid-range GPU prices are back in stock.

Depends a bit. For a big part it's luck. Some things break quick others are troopers and never give up. But if the person before you pushed it a lot and long it's more likely to break sooner then later. But again you could get lucky and it's keeps going on. With 25$ I would just go for it. If it does break after 4 months or something it's only 25 bucks.

Thanks! I will probably get a gainward one for 30€. The card seems like it wasn't used that much.
