Strictly for gaming? No, the 7700K is better. But for anything more than that (multi threded workloads like photoshop, video rendering, streaming, etc) then the 1700/1700x/1800x are the better chips

No reason to buy the 1800X, the 1700 and 1700X will perform the same if you OC them. I would take iiNNeX's suggestion (probably not that motherboard though, $250 is too much to spend IMO)

Why buy the most expensive chip and skimp on a good mobo?

Get yourself a Ryzen 1700, it overclocks just as much as the 1800x, and get an Asus Crosshair VI.

Define better? Better in gaming? Depends on the game (if paired with high frequency memory it can be very similar). What is better is the Minimum FPS, which will make games feel smoother in the end.

For anything outside of games, yes miles better.

Get a 1700, get a nice cooler and high frequency memory (DDR4 3200 from Gskill with good timings) and oc it to 3.9-4ghz and you will be golden :)

Get 1700 and you can already save more than 100$.

And if you will overclock it, you will get same performance out of it as you would with 1800x.

I got the Ryzen 1700 and a B350 mobo. I didn't go for the A370 as I don't intend to do SLi and I was able to spend a bit more on better performance RAM (and more of it). Got the 1700 overclocked at a little over 3.9GHz, can probably get more but haven't had time to tweak the settings more :D

Ryzen 1700 4GHz OC, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming 3 Motherboard, Corsair 32GB 3000MHz RAM, Gigabyte RTX 2080 Super

Alienware 13 R3, 7700HQ, 16GB 2667MHz RAM, GTX 1060 6GB
