Is the Oneplus 5 USB Type C cable safe to use with other Type C devices?

Arcanekitten

Back in 2015 there was this issue with cables being out of spec and it possibly damaging phones.

The oneplus 2 cable was one of these cables but the current Oneplus 5 cable is different from the previous mentioned Oneplus 2 cable.

Is it still out of spec? Is it safe to use with a other Type C phone?

You would think Ubisoft would support the Bulldozer based architectures more given their digging themed names like bulldozer, Piledriver, Steamroller and Excavator.

The only thing you're not supposed to do as defined by the spec is go from Type C to Type A or B. So if you're plugging in a Type C cable in your computer, the device must also be Type C. Going from Type A or Type B to Type C is fine.

The whole thing about the bad cables were because knock off manufacturers were making cables that would cause the power delivery system to deliver more power than what either the device or cable can handle (e.g.., supplying 19V instead of 5V which would kill the device or pulling 5A on the cable when it's really only good for 2A).

EDIT: Actually I may have been reading the spec wrong. There's a blurb that basically says "Legacy adapters with a USB-C receptacle are "not defined or allowed" by the specification because they can create "many invalid and potentially unsafe" cable combinations "

So what I think this means is you cannot have a Type C to say Micro B adapter or something, regardless of what the host uses. You can do Micro B to Type C.
